I think I may actually have to pick this up. The game looks like fun and it's pretty enough. The PR guys did a great job on the editing for the clip, really gets the blood pumping. Liked the music too.
Download speeds are the biggest hurdle, but if MS wants DD to take off, they'll need to get everyone a hard drive big enough to store HD movies then make sure that the machine is reliable enough that people feel safe storing their movie collections on it.
The decisions they've made for the x360 aren't in line with those requirements so they'll need to correct them in their next iteration.
I'd say that the Wii has proven then it's more than a fad. I do think that sales will slow down once more people have HDTVs in their homes. The Wii just can't compare to a PS3 or 360 in Hi Def.
well written comment and your arguments are logical. nice to see that kind of post here.
In fact, the USB ports and card readers can easily be added. The PS3 will work with any USB hub or card reader. They run about $10-$20 online if you want one.
If BC is a deal breaker (and you don't already have a PS2) go buy a PS2 for $129 at amazon. You can probably get a used one for even cheaper.
And just for comparison the 20GB HDD for the X360 is $89, which is a pretty good deal but the 120GB HDD is a ripoff at $179.
are you sure? usually DVD's are encoded at 480p (720X480) or 576p (720×576) depending on whether you have a NTSC or PAL version. They are also usually encoded at 25-30 FPS. This matches the highest resolutions you can typically get on an SDTV.
The HD format war wasn't really decided until the very end of January so Feb will be the first month where it will be a factor. Also, I wouldn't trust VG's weekly numbers wait until NPD reports monthly numbers tomorrow.
unless they can somehow increase the capacity of the DVD there is no way they can put an HD movie on 1 disk.
all this is about is adding some of the HDi and network connectivity features onto a regular standard definition disk.
Toshiba became one of the largest manufacturers of nuclear power plants when they acquired westinghouse electric a few years ago.
The Xbox is already cheaper than the PS3 so increasing the price differential doesn't significantly improve the X360 marketing message.
"Now even more cheaper than the PS3!" -> not a very strong message
I agree with you. Cutting the price so soon after they announced "supply issues" is inconsistent at best and smacks of desperation IMO.
The price cut card is one of the few remaining moves that MS has to play so the fact that they are hinting at using it so early in the year is a bad sign for them. Another problem is that they are already cheaper than the PS3 so increasing the price differential doesn't change their marketing message much.

I think it would be nice if Sony allowed peripherals to attach to the SIXAXIS usb port. It's rechargeable and has a bluetooth connection so devices like headsets could just plug directly into the controller. Just a thought.
The recharging dock and automatic pairing through USB sold it for me. It looks nice too.
I'll probably get the SOCOM bundle but honestly I'd rather just have the game installed on my HDD instead of having to swap disks. Still the bundle price is hard to beat if you're going to get SOCOM anyway.
If the 360 pulls ahead of the PS3 for feb NPD, then MS will say their "supply constraints" have been addressed. Of course, they won't announce anything until the day before the numbers are released.
They're neck and neck right now but I expect that PS3 sales will continue to rise while 360 sales start to drop off. Here's my argument.
Sales of the 360 likely peaked with Halo 3. Anyone who really wanted a 360 probably already has one. I doubt there are many people who are holding off on buying a 360 for any of the games announced for this year.
On the other hand, there are large categories of gamers who are waiting to buy a PS3 until their franchise of choice is r...
I think people in Japan might be waiting for the Yakuza 3 bundle which would put a damper on sales in the weeks immediately prior to the launch.
Bubbles for a well articulated comment.
I think of developing for PS3 vs. X360 is like programming C++ vs. VB. VB is much easier to code and does 80% of what you would ever want to do but is limited. C++ is much more powerful but also harder to program.
Bottom line is that average programmers can produce better results in VB but skilled programmers can do things in C++ that could never be done in VB.
So they won't provide any numbers for the UK
Even after they extended the warranty, the news about 30% RROD rates and the new designs meant to address overheating, Microsoft still has not officially admitted that the Xbox 360 is flawed.
If/when they eventually do admit the problem they will either have to do a recall (like the sony battery fiasco last year) or be exposed to numerous lawsuits, not just from consumers but also from retailers. The 3 year extended warranty was a way for MS to keep their customers happy while no...
Perhaps someone has finally gotten around to creating a toolkit for creating procedural graphics using the cell chip. Dynamically generating graphics on the fly rather than loading predefined textures into geometric models. Here's a link to an article describing how it works... http://www.next-gen.biz/ind...
If they've pulled this off then the graphics wo...
