"Sony's strong growth is the result of a lower hardware price, which is allowing it to catch up to the pack."
The PS3 lowered its price but it's still the most expensive console in the pack so the author's statement makes no sense
This could have been written by any of the fanboys on this site. Waste of time.
but I have to admit that I chuckled
Except for the Wii, that is. Things should start looking up for the PS3 once MGS4 comes out and more JRPGs are released but I doubt it's ever going to be as huge as the PS2 was in the prior gen. Not sure what the answer is for the 360, though. It's just sad.
Think of it as doing your part to provide scientists and doctors with the world's most powerful computer so they can do their work.
The power consumption is negligible and as many have said can be easily offset by turning off other electronics that aren't contributing to the fight against cancer and disease.
The character models aren't bad but they're also not amazing and a little generic, at least from these scans. The Chimera, on the other hand, look awesome in other scans I've seen. The gun in the second shot look pretty cool though.
Lots of detail and the light being filtered through the branches adds a lot of atmosphere. Looking forward to all of the environments that we'll get to play through in R2.
Here's how I fixed it. I unplugged my network cable, deleted the GTA file under game data, reinstalled the game and played past the first few save points in single player. It works fine for me now even with the network cable plugged in.
I have a 60GB PS3 and I haven't downloaded the patch yet.
Then it will cost 4-5 times as much as well. Good luck selling that console in a crowded market with no games. Ask the Sony guys, it's not a walk in the park.
The PS3 works with any external USB hard drive. Just plug it in. You can't install games on it but if you move all of your media onto the external drive it should free up plenty of space on your internal.
Of course, it's not that hard to upgrade your internal drive either but it's nice to have options.
if they would just put a second analog stick on the psp2 and made the entire ps1/ps2 library available for download on PSN, Sony would make a sh*tload of money from me.
*licks pencil and writes killzone 2 on list of games to buy*
I thought online play was a big part of the Monster Hunter appeal. Seems like this is an area where the Wii might not be a good fit. I could be wrong since I've never played the game.
I'm sure they have or can acquire skilled developers who can program the PS3 so that's probably not the reason. In reality, it just wouldn't be in their best interests to contribute to the adoption of the PS3 ecosystem.
Think about it, Valve has a good thing with Steam. It's a managed distribution method for PC based games that they control, which avoids the biggest problem with PC gaming, piracy. The 360 and PC share the same architecture, which is why the 360 is considered &qu...
Don't forget Sony also makes movies (Columbia, SPE), TV shows (SPE), music (SonyBMG), cell phones (SonyEricsson), and of course Blu-ray players. In Japan, Sony also runs a large financial services company.
Even if MS included BC to keep their fanbase from revolting, they'd still have a problem convincing game developers to make games for a new platform that has a limited install base. Sony actually has an advantage here because they own or control so many first-party studios. Microsoft's biggest first-party devs, Bioware and Bungie, have left MS so it'll be even more difficult (or expensive) for MS to get developers to create launch titles for their next console.
The reality is tha...
PS2 sold to a smaller addressable market, add in the casual market, bluray buyers and new geographies (eastern europe, india, south america, china?) and it could be possible.
If everyone who alread owns a PS3 buys 4-5 more games this year and everyone who buys one this year buys 4-5 games then it should add 2-3 to the overall attach rate bringing it up to the 6.5-7 range you quoted.
Ironically, if Sony sells more PS3s this year than they did last year, it will actually hurt their attach rate by pulling the average down.
I wonder if that's what MS paid $50mm for. To cut out the stuff that they couldn't fit on the disc and make it DLC.
I think they might have sold a few copies of GTA on the PS2... LOL
What's up with you avatar picture?
No one is going to argue that Sony didn't make a few mistakes in the PS3's first year (not even Sony) but the PS3 still outsold the 360 in 2007 and so far in 2008.
By his own argument, once Sony starts delivering on these promises, which they seem likely to do based on what we've seen from Playstation Day, the PS3 will blow the 360 away.
I think GTAIV and Bluray were the tipping points for getting PS2 owners to start buying PS3s. Sales will just continue accelerate ...
