I've said it before and I'll say it again. GT5:P is the "tipping point" for the PS3. Even though it's a "prologue," it's the first playstation mega-franchise to come out this gen so i think this is an indicator of what we should expect to see for the next few months.

I'm excited about Confrontation even though I've never played SOCOM online before. I was never a big fan of online MP until I started playing Warhawk and COD4 but now I'm addicted and I need my next fix.
I do hope they have RPG elements in SOCOM like IW put into COD4. I like having bite-sized objectives to keep things interesting.
It was ballsy to include BR with the PS3 but the bet paid off and sales of both platforms will increase with the side benefit of encouraging more people to buy HDTVs and 7.1 channel sounds systems, which Sony also makes. Good for them.
The download was also delayed a day which might have prompted people who were planning to go that route to get out to the stores and buy it on BR.
I'll prob buy the download when it comes to the US. I don't like to swap disks.
I think that the PS3 has hit the "tipping point" with GT5:P and will just continue to gain momentum with GTA and MGS. By Christmas it'll be a runaway train.
Agree with you Sonarus. The fact that the PSN store will be a native XMB app is good news indeed. If I was a gambler, I'd bet that this means that Sony has done some tweaking of the XMB OS to make it more efficient and flexible.

But the Wii is just delaying the conversion of PS2 owners to the PS3. I'm guessing that many PS2 gamers are not ready to upgrade to a PS3 yet for a number of reasons, too expensive, fav game not out yet, don't have an HD TV, etc.
The Wii and the PSP/DS to some extent, are great transitional consoles for these people and provides them with a "next-gen" gaming experience that is better/different than what they can get on their PS2 for now.

The way I read their statement, PSN is contributing to the number of people playing online but not necessarily beating the XBOX LIVE numbers.
The fact that they don't release the numbers for PSN would indicate that they're not higher than 1.2-1.3MM. That said, I would expect that more PS3 players have at least tried playing COD4 online because it's free but based in the install base there are almost certainly more people playing on the XBOX.
These guys created a great game that's given me a lot of enjoyment.
I play a few matches almost every day after I come home from work and put my daughter to bed. It's a great way to unwind for me and the bite-sized achievements make it fun to play even if I don't have much time. Actually, sabotage gets me pretty tense but then I'll play a few matches of hardcore deathmatch to take the edge off.

EDIT: nvm, forgot you can play any PS1 game using Remote Play, PSN or disk.
Add in the DS3 in April and a pre-christmas price drop and it would be madness not to pick up a PS3 sometime this year. I might even get a second one if they ever come out with the white version in the US.

Love COD4 but the matchmaking leaves much to be desired. I would personally like to see more games use the Warhawk lobby system which allows you to choose from a list of servers that shows maps being played, # of players and ping rates.
Achievements are one of the differentiators for the Xbox360 and for many people it's a reason to buy the x360 version of a multiplatform game over the ps3 version. If cheaters break the achievement ranking system and gamerscores become meaningless then it will hurt MS in the long run.
Anyway, I think it's good that MS is making an effort to protect the validity of the gamerscore. Dealing with cheaters is an important part of building an online community. I hope Sony does the sa...
