Have to figure they would have confirmed it already if they didn't care about it being out there. The concern also would not be limited to the disclosure in this article, or limited to the disclosure of information specific to Xbox. The information that has been leaked goes beyond the stunt Epic has treated this as.

That's what I was saying earlier. They're messy. It's not just partners. Look how Steam got sucked into it. The slightest association with Epic can get companies caught up at this point. They emailed Xbox telling them to enjoy the fireworks. I can't imagine Xbox is entirely happy with the way they went about this.

Unless they patched it out.

This can't be a good look for Epic's reputation in the industry, having all this leak out because they insisted on provoking a fight with Apple. I suppose they think Fortnite is big enough that it doesn't matter. That seems to be their attitude on a number of things.

@Thatgrammar

They aren't missing the point. Getting F2P from behind the paywall was incidental to Sweeney's desire to grow Fortnite's customer base on Xbox and to time doing it at a moment that would increase pressure and bad PR for Apple.

It's not based on an assumption. That's why they came up with the formula. Other platforms aren't doing it with Fortnite because PS is the one that stands to lose. They had to make it right for PS to get everyone onboard. PS isn't going to build the bigger customer base and open it up so some other company can come in and take their sale using their customers.

Okay. So why is it shocking? I didn't say you supported it. I found it shocking you find it shocking based on your recent comments about revenue.

Shocking? I find it shocking that you find it shocking. You were the one who said this to me 10 days ago when you were trying to portray PSVR as a failure.

That's exactly what happened. Epic waited until Fortnite became big enough that they thought they could muscle Sony into allowing them to change the deal and cut Sony out of the revenue sharing. Kind of like what they're trying with Apple.

"There are no negatives to cross platform play (as long as you can choose not to use it), so why not?"

That's incorrect. As clearly indicated by the documents and confirmed by Epic, Sony had to be compensated because they stood to lose revenue from the deal. People talk about $70 games, Days Gone 2, and restructuring Japan studio. They don't like to think so much on what may have precipitated it. I don't think those things were affected by cross-play, ...

MS was making money off of their Fortnite players because they kept F2P behind a paywall. Want to play Fortnite on Xbox? Pay for Live. Not the case with Sony. They were reliant on getting their cut from Fortnite's microtransactions and had the bigger customer base, accounting for 40% of Fortnite's revenue. Pushing for Fortnite cross-play meant that Xbox benefited from PS4's player base to bolster their lobbies and nullify the incentive many have to buy the system their friends gam...

"I don't see why it's a hate article on Sony."

Walweeze didn't specifically say the article was the hate. "This" could be referring to some usual suspects who want to spin scandal out of confirmation of something I said years ago. There would have to be a revenue sharing agreement that rewards Sony proportionally to their player base for it to be greenlit.

"No (s***) it free to play on ps4 vs xb needing xb live to play online."

In other words, MS was guaranteed to make money off gamers playing Fortnite on Xbox by locking it behind a F2P paywall that whole time they were pressuring Sony to let their player base spend money on other platforms, potentially bypassing spending a single cent on PS, and trying to spin it as being pro consumer.

Anyway, I'll take a momen...

I didn't want to believe your comment was anything more than trolling the supposed mindset of Game Pass supporters. Then I checked your comment history. Yikes!

"Awesome we get the game for free on Xbox while Sony fanboys have to pay 69.99 to play it. Gamepass is great gamers no longer need to pay 69.99 for each game just pay 59.99 a year and play thousands of games basically for free. No gamer worth their salt would own a PS when you have a deal like gamepass.&quo...

Maybe settle down and wait to see how Sony responds IF that happens. Or back up your rhetoric by giving up PS and get an Xbox. Good luck to you.

You talk like PS hasn't been beating Xbox for over 19 years, since Xbox first got in the game. They're all of a sudden going to forget how to compete and have no response to Xbox? Do you remember when Xbox enticed a number of Playstation's most iconic, 3rd party exclusive franchises to go multi...

"Microsoft has 23 studios..."

Yet, MS with it's 23 studios is lagging behind a single studio Sony scooped up after MS went on their studio shopping spree. Insomniac will have released two new 1st party PS exclusives for PS5 before a single one of those 23 studios provides a new Xbox/PC exclusive for Series X/S. That's not the past. That's the present.

That's what happens when you indulge someone who moves the goalposts. They'll just move the goalposts again when you beat them at their game. Kudos for pointing out (some of) the holes in rlow's argument for those who may otherwise not have known, but don't expect a concession from someone who began their argument by moving the goalposts.

"That situation doesn't look to be repeating itself, but we are aware that the winds can change."

The situation has really been more consistent than you're giving it credit for by dredging up 2005 - 2006. People like to point to Xbox's closest loss as an example of how easily they can win. The PS2 had record setting dominance that has yet to be replicated. It is the zenith for PS market share in the over two decades they've been in the market acros...
