If current gen consoles can't hold back next gen consoles then why did Capcom cancel RE8 for current gen consoles? Because current gen consoles were holding back their vision for the game. Game engines can't scale someone's creativity when it comes to game design. There is also a threshold to which an engine can scale something without is ruining the integrity.
The two main features of a next gen console should be:
a) Play old games enhanced by new tech
b) Play new games held back by old tech

Since when have developers prioritized optimizing PC versions over relying on brute force? Most developers prioritize optimization for consoles since they have lower level access, I reckon that won’t change next gen. Developers will prioritize the console that is easier for them to develop for (with the exception of exclusives that have the benefit of only worrying about one platform to take advantage of). If less CUs are easier for them, they will go that route....
Microsoft set the expectation when they mentioned gameplay reveals, so you can’t fault people for wanting to be shown gameplay. People were disappointed because they tuned in to see gameplay, as was marketed by Microsoft, but got little to none. Publishers and developers should show gameplay when they are ready, they should also be honest about a gameplay event/reveal (or lack thereof) if they aren’t ready to show gameplay. Had Microsoft not explicitly mentioned gameplay people wouldn’t conti...

Are you saying the Xbox 360 had blu ray support? That Microsoft didn’t join Sony in using blu ray discs with the Xbox One?
I think Sony is willing to bring PS4 exclusives to PC because it's about to be a last gen console, anyone who wanted a PS4 to play these games has already bought a PS4. Once it's a last gen console, price cuts will be it's primary driver. I don't think you will see Sony AAA first party PS5 games coming to PC until the end part of its life cycle, so the people willing to wait may be waiting a very long time. This is my opinion.
They aren't first party though.
I think the article is nonsense. Of course Media Molecule could have made something more “substantial” than Art’s Dream, but being “substantial” isn’t the point of Art’s Dream. The point is to give the user a small glimpse of what’s possible in Dreams and to spark their imagination. This is why it’s not a basic tutorial, but also why it’s not a “full fledge campaign” within the game. Dreams isn’t about what Media Molecule can create for us, it’s about what we can create for ourselves and othe...

The whole 12tflop vs 9tflop is an old rumor. There are newer rumors speculating the Series X GPU will be less than 1 tflop more powerful. Meanwhile the PS5 will have an almost 2x faster SSD, potentially more storage, faster RAM, and overall better performance. These are all rumors though, but if you are going to use rumors as an argument at least us up to date rumors.
If you didn't want to engage in a discussion wouldn't it have been easier to delete what was written before posting it, instead of typing nevermind at the end?
What you dont seem to understand is that nobody in their right mind thinks the Series X games won’t look better than the One S counterpart. However, the problem with making next gen games compliant with older hardware is that you are bound by the older hardware’s capability. Graphics aside, Microsoft will make concessions to their “next gen” games because of them having to be playable on the One S. You think Microsoft is going to release Halo Infinite for the Series X with huge maps that can ...
Technically yes, they do have generations. They are just not as defined as console generations. PC games have minimum requirements, which is similar in that the old hardware can no longer play the new games. So if you want to keep playing newer games you have to buy newer hardware, like console gamers have to buy the newer consoles.
If you have a PC that can only play games from 2013 because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements of newer games, guess what, you have ...
My point is that the Xbox Series X is being held back by the Xbox One S CPU, which you just admitted is a bottleneck. It doesn’t matter what CPU the Series X has if the developers have to be tethered to the antiquated CPU inside the Xbox One S.
@ sophisticated_chap
Since you are an all knowing PC elitist, tell me, is the GPU all that matters? Is there a reason people wouldn’t pair a RTX 2080 with a 10 year old CPU? Perhaps to avoid bottlenecks? Because that’s what Microsoft is doing by keeping their games tethered to a console that launched in 2013 with an already weak CPU, creating their own bottleneck. Sure the games will look great because of the Series X GPU, but anything CPU related will be held back to lesse...

How would anyone know what games will take advantage of the PS5 when they haven’t announced all the launch titles? What I am expecting is for Sony to utilize the strength of the PS5 for games specifically releasing on the PS5. What I am also expecting is launch Xbox Series X games to not live up to their full potential if developers are being tethered to the Xbox One S. If they can only fit 20 cars on screen simultaneously for the Xbox One S, you think they are go...
No, Im saying they should release games on the Xbox One that are designed for the Xbox One AND release games on the Series X designed for the Series X separately. Not release the same game on both platforms at the same time, where the integrity of both may be compromised (Xbox One owners will get a gimped version of the game or Series X owners will feel they are being held back). I though I made that pretty clear when I used Sony as an example, they are releasing games on the PS4 while also r...
I don’t think the issue is the Series X not having exclusives, per se. But rather the games will be made with the lowest common denominator in mind (Xbox One S). Due to the vast differences in the CPU and other aspects, they won’t be able to take advantage of the power the CPU provides.
I understand not wanting to alienate Xbox One owners and late adopters, but doing it at the expense of Series X early adopters isn’t fair either.
And people aren’t acting ...
What features will only be available on the Series X? It’s my understanding that the graphics can be enhanced because it’s a scalable aspect of game design, but mostly everything else will be held back because of the vast difference in CPU. So things like AI, level design, NPCs, physics will all be held back. Unless Microsoft is willing to push the power of the new CPU and allow the old consoles to get gimped version of games (I.e. “dumber” AI, smaller levels, less enemies, etc).
I mean they added prone, so that's some gameplay evolution right there.
