I mean, what's there to say? Halo 1 pretty much set the bar for console shooters back in the day. Then Halo 2 came out with it's amazing & addictive multiplayer (which I still played up until MS cut off original XBL service).

Multiplayer is where Halo is pretty much at. When MLG came around for Halo 2 and continuing on to Reach, it just made the game a whole lot addictive. Now, I'm only speaking for myself right here... But imo, Halo's competitive multipla...

From what I've read, GDDR5 chips are pretty expensive. DDR3 is dirt cheap, so we might see that next gen. MAYBE DDR4.

All Unreal Engine 3 games have pretty selective Anti-Aliasing anyway. Mass Effect 1 & 2, Gears 1 & 2, etc... EPIC just decided to drop AA altogether since it was pretty much a waste of memory and bandwidth and decided to put that memory and bandwidth to better use...

He probably meant not to read the comments. Because from what I've seen, Uncharted 3 is brought up in mostly every Gears 3 article. But frankly, I agree with you. These comparisons are dumb.

I cannot tell how weird that pink gnasher looks. lol

But the red lancer looks pretty beastly! Gears 3 again looking amazing.

Cheers! :D

This right here proves that the 360 is capable of putting out amazing graphics. The Gridlock map also looked fantastic.

Go EPIC! :D

Both games look amazing. I haven't played the Uncharted 3 beta yet, but Gears 3 looked fabulous. Going by the analysis, Gears 3 had more tearing while Uncharted 3 had no tearing whatsoever. But Uncharted 3 did have more frame-rate drops (dropping to 19FPS! D:)

This all may be changed at launch. But I believe the tearing won't be fixed for Gears 3 as EPIC have always used soft v-sync for all the Gears games. Still, Single-player is still both games will shine. ;D

Are you guys serious? They are donating to a charity and you guys still manage to find a way and turn this article into a fanboy war. Pathetic. Simply disgusting what this site has come to.

Anyways, this is great! Thank you MS for donating to people who are willing to sacrifice themselves to protect our freedom. Cheers!

Like I said in my other post, FXAA could serve better for both consoles. 1ms for GPU rendering saves the 360 the hassle of trying to apply MSAA on a deferred renderer, and the PS3 benefits more cause now you have spare SPU cycles instead of wasting 3-4ms for MLAA.

A programmer on Sony's ICE team actually implemented FXAA and he said it was painless integration, impressive quality, and amazing performance.

eDRAM has proven itself quite a bit actually. Bayonetta on the 360 for example had full resolution alpha transparencies while the PS3 version had lower resolution. Halo: Reach also had TONS of alpha, and with the help of eDRAM, they were rendered at full resolution.

Gears of War 3 also seemed to used eDRAM quite well. Have you ever thrown a smoke grenade in Gears 3? Have you seen the way it looked? Most games that render smoke look like they are in 2D. Gears 3 on the other h...

Well, MLAA is a post-process filter. The impact it will have on the 360 will be a lot less than using standard MSAA. Alan Wake also used a deferred renderer and on top of that applied 4xMSAA, that right there is the major reason AW was subHD.

Deferred rendering is also not really eDRAM friendly, so I expect a least most deferred rendered games on the 360 to be subHD. So this is why all these new AA techniques are coming out such as FXAA and MLAA. To help ease the pain of usi...

For #2, even though you don't want to hear "it's easy to use" but in all honesty, that would probably be the case for developers. Unreal Engine may also be relatively low in cost.

IMO, it all comes down to the artstlye. And with all the upgrades coming to UE3, it makes other games that used the old UE3 version look pretty bad (Unreal Tournament 3 though is still really good ;]). After playing the Gears 3 beta, I can honestly say it looks WAY better than 1 &a...

Come on man, don't go there. That is the last thing we need in this article.

Anyways, great video. Turn 10 held it down! Forza 4 looks B-E-Autiful! I want more gameplay!

Cheers! :D

Does anyone have a problem when using the slider? Everytime I slide it, it highlights the picture. Is there a way to fix this?

Anyways, both games look great. Still have to give this one a try. Cheers! :D

These BF3 articles are really getting tiresome. Every article filled with the same old die hard fanboys defending their console. Not only that, DICE themselves needs to just prove these people wrong and show actual gameplay. Let the game do the talking.

No, it doesn't. But since it's optional, I'm not complaining.

Eh, I don't think it would be early 2013 for the next Xbox. I doubt MS would want to miss the holiday season. Especially with Black Friday, Christmas and whatnot.

I'm still going to keep my prediction: Holiday 2013.

Does it really matter if it's 720p? I think it's whats under the hood that matters. Just think about it, what really makes games go sub-HD? It's what the devs actually implement that makes it so. Alan Wake is sub-HD because it's deferred rendering and on top of that, it has 4xMSAA.

Halo: Reach is sub-HD because of it's HDR and huge array of dynamic lighting, and also it's use of huge amounts of alpha transparencies that are at full resolution. Not to m...

Everyone knows that the Cell can help the RSX in rendering... Even the biggest fanboy in the world knows that. I understand that the Cell can help take the load off the RSX by doing the post effects such as SSAO, Anti-Aliasing, etc... But what I'm trying to gather at is the resolution itself...

You said that the developers have a choice to do 1080p because of Blu-ray. And I said you were wrong because that only applies to movies. Resolutions are stored in the framebuffer...

The 1080p thing for BluRay only applies for movies.. For games, all developers store their resolutions in memory. BF3 is a really demanding game (Deferred rendering, destructible environments, HDR, etc..) having to store a 1080p frame buffer will cost massive amounts of memory and bandwidth on both consoles.
