Cost is a big factor but also time and practicality are major limitations.

Sony could have used a different CPU design, but where do they get it? AMD's are still rubbish and power thirsty, Ryzen architecture still isn't ready. You're talking a total redesign of the SoC, instead of the one they did which was simpler keeping the existing Jaguar cores.

They could also have a much bigger GPU from AMD. But wait- that is what Microsoft are doing. ...

It's just Japan. While Nintendo have always sold well in Japan, they have failed miserably outside their home region.

Unfortunately the market outside of Japan is much much larger. The Wii U is quite popular in Japan, but PS4 has now overtaken it. Xbox One is nowhere in Japan it may as well not exist there, but it has massively outsold Wii U overall.

If Nintendo continue to focus on their home region and only have success there, they can't really ...

The biggest problem of all is indeed simply the price. It'll be a total disaster going head to head against base PS4/Xbox One hardware that are still faster and dedicated home consoles with strong third party support.

It's considerably more expensive than a base PS4/Xbox One, or even bundle deals for both machines that are easily found. Just let that sink in for a minute. If you are charging more than your main rivals, your machine and games lineup better be the shi...

I'll be extremely surprised if it is a hit. Setup to fail IMO.

If by 'held back' you mean the developers split their time and therefore had less focus on the original version of the game (PC) as I clearly said then yes, absolutely, held back.

They are not a massive developer, the console versions were not well polished, and the PC version was not as well polished as it could have been.

All three versions could and should have been better if they had focused on the PC version first which is where their crowd f...

My opinion on why Project CARS fell just a little short was because it was expanded to release on the consoles. Originally it was just a PC project, understandably it was more financially viable on 3 platforms rather than just one.

But it also meant the quality of all 3 versions were below that of my expectations had they spent all their time on the initial PC project and ported the game later.

All versions needed and deserved more polish and had several...

I have owned and played every GT game since the series arrived two decades ago, yes, including the prologues and concept games.

I have owned and played every Forza Motorsport game ever made.

Right now in 2017, Forza is leagues ahead. Forza 6 is so much better than GT6 in virtually every metric, it's not amusing. It is very disappointing how uneven the overall quality of the experience is in GT and has been since GT4.

GT sport bringi...

Steam claimed 12 months ago that there is 125 million active users. It is safe to assume that figure has gone up a quite a bit since then. Even if the survey includes 'only' 100 million unique users and 3 percent of users are have a 'primary' display above 1920 x 1080 as indicated, that's 3 million users.

There is an 'other' resolution figure which does not specify, but it is most likely largely people running more than the quoted resolutions wit...

Beyond Good and Evil was not a big seller though. critically it was a success and it's a superb game, commercially it was a major failure.

Nintendo need big selling commercially successful exclusives which will shift machines. Beyond Good and Evil 2 wouldn't likely be that. It's got a cult following to this day and did ok on a remaster but it's not going to shift 1 million copies on launch day like Nintendo really need a game to.

PS4 Pro is already close to a native 4K console NOW despite using a terribly slow CPU and only a little more memory than PS4 which is 3 years old. 12 months from today Scorpio will almost certainly be a full/extremely close native 4K console on the 14nm Global Foundries process.

So you're wrong. 10nm generation is also on schedule. It'll be in full mass production during 2017 for all of Intel, Samsung and TSMC. Samsung and TSMC have already started, intel are in pre...

PS4 Pro seems to be timed well. Sony could (and should) go 3 years of PS4, 3 years of Pro- next generation late 2019.

Microsoft will end up with 4 years of Xbox One, and despite their determination to have the fastest console, only 2 years of it with Scorpio if Sony launch a next gen machine after 3 years of Pro.

Forza Motorsport comes out every 2 years. Each time it's been the best console sim racer and has been for many, many years. Considering the lack of decent sim style racers on console a new Motorsport title every 2 years is very welcome. It becomes more refined and more rounded each time. Nobody holds a gun to your head to buy it.

The alternative is waiting years for a decent sim racer and then when it turns out it is very disappointing. Especially so if you have produce...

Not even PS4 can get close to a GTX970, don't be silly. I was looking at Battlefield 1 benchmarks just the other day.

PS4 doesn't even hit 1920 x 1080. It has a dynamic framebuffer and is usually below that. It also can't sustain 60FPS despite the resolution lowering itself, much of the time it's hovering around 50FPS average and as low as 30FPS minimum in rough spots. The game's setting are equivalent to about medium/high on average compared to the PC v...

Some weird comments in here. Comparing Nvidia Pascal floating point performance to a completely different AMD architecture and assuming graphics performance is equal for a start.

AMD's designs have had better compute than Nvidia's but that is all FLOPS measures, not actual graphics performance. For example an AMD RX 480 a little overclocked has over 6 teraflops peak theoretical compute, and a GTX1070 has less than 7, but the GTX1070 utterly destroys the RX 480 on ac...

Dude it's an Nvidia Tegra chipset, but with slower than expected clocks and a Nintendo badge on it. The strong rumours point to it being an outdated Maxwell based X1 chip already in various year+ old devices (like the Shield TV and Pixel C) but running slower.......

In short Nintendo probably haven't even secured the latest Tegra P1 16nm FinFET design. You would hope that this is all wrong and Switch uses the P1. A custom P1 would be very powerful for a device this ...

As a PC gamer Xbox One is a tough sell. The advantages of it over an existing modern PC setup are not evident.

I can fully understand people who have a PS4 or a Nintendo machine coupled with a gaming PC, but Xbox one is not a great accompaniment.

Backwards compatibility for example is an incredibly weak argument/reason when the Xbox One can still only play a portion of original X360 games and X360 hardware itself that WILL play every game is very very che...
