1: No. Almost all platinum trophies take a lot of time, rarily skill.
2: Even if they do take skill, seeing as it's a simple checkbox they don't provide a way to compete with either yourself of the game. You don't have 92% of a trophy, you have it or you don't, so you can't measure your improvement or compate your progress to your friends.

No. See, high scores allowed competition with friends (or yourself) to improve on your abilities. Trophies are just checkmarks, most of them take no skill and essentially all of them fail to offer a way to meaningfully compete with either yourself or the game.

IMO the best story (outside the books) is Reach. It's also the best game in the series by a country mile though, so it's possible I'm biased. Master Chief, at least in the games, isn't really an ineresting character. Reach did the same thing with the "protagonist" but had the sense to focus more on the exploits of the squad as a whole, and then fill the squad with at least somewhat interesting characters.
Just because people didn't talk about it doesn't mean it wasn't there. There are game devs who developed during the cold war who made games specifically about the inevitabile failure of defense systems in the event of all out nuclear war. (I believe the game is missle commander but I'm not sure.) There's racist nonsense like Custers Revenge. There's the damsel in distress/ king kong ripoff of Donkey Kong and the various things to unpack in those tropes.
