It will be interesting to see them both at work. I feel like XBox's OS is pushing voice commands more so than the controller navigation, which has me a little skeptical that it will be much different from trying Windows 8 with a mouse.
I really did like the XMB (minus load times), especially before they started adding too many things. Maybe the touchpad could add some interesting integration too later on.
@ XB1_PS4
I don't know, I learned that there are 2 (almost? or maybe actually) 3 ways to type. So if you hate the DPad you can use motion sensing - or soon the touch pad. What if you learn to integrate all 3?
I learned the face thing isn't unique to a console.
I learned it multitasks (and hopefully it pauses my game). Whereas I can see the pros and cons between this and snap. Personally, I want an auto pause full screen switch in ...
It's a good thing for every side of the social spectrum.
Trolls meet trolls, fanboys meet fanboys, akward people meet awkward people, and so forth and so on. We all win socially.
@Shad0wRunner
I agree, Home was a great thing, in premise. Hear me out.
From a gamer standpoint, home was bogged down by clunky interfaces, load times, and complicated learning curve. Edit: It also had amusing facebook-like games that I found fun when I didn't know what I wanted to play.
From a social person who just wanted to go into home and collect all that I could, build my apartment, and go everywhere, it was awesome. Completely aw...

I know it's not much, but that's something I love. I honestly thought NA was getting ignored with the extras department.
Yeah, the "one box to rule them all" thing has been tried before, and I'm not sold.
All I own is internet. Sport games? I'm usually at a bar. TV shows? Usually via streaming as I prefer to game first and foremost.
The fact that they added all the TV stuff left me out, especially since it's proving to be less powerful.
@LOGICWINS
I didn't interpret any of that article as being immmature, especially since it was sliced up quotes.
I doubt that Cerny was using, "box to watch tv" as a means of a slam. Honestly, I think those of you who thought that comment was directed at you are getting waaay too defensive about brand loyalty.
I like the idea of voice commands. They have a certain usefulness. There are cons to them that some of us get (like when the GF is asleep ^.^).
However, I don't like that MS is pushing the kinect on us for voice commands. Voice commands only need a mic (like PS4 allows). I shouldn't HAVE to have the camera if I don't want it for them.
That may be my opinion, but I do feel they're PUSHING the kinect on me for really only one thing I want, th...
I understand what you're saying, however I do think the touchpad will add a great element to the console games.
My first example is that in KZ they use it to control the OWL by swiping left, right, up and down.
My second example is that some games are using it to zoom in and out of the minimap much like you do on your phone.
I think it's up to the developer; yes, some will have stupid implementations and others will have great imple...
@Plasticgearsolid
Only trolls can somehow compare cross-genre games. Somewhere, someone else will say the opposite, "KZ:SF will be 1000x better than Infamous." That's fine. To each their own.
Oh yeah! That menu screen that AAA games don't have is a burden!
Oh, it's list form vs tile form that takes them awhile to load, huh?
Lol...
@ JackISbacK
Seriously? Not only was it hard to comprehend what you were actually saying, but there were only 9 options on the screen and 6 of them were social functions.
The way I see it is that these are the things I use more often than not. having them all on one line is awesome. Then, when the guy flicked down (however he did so) he came across recently run programs - which is also awesome in my opinion.
To me, this seems downright to t...
I know you're taking a lot of heat for this comment because apparently an MS employee (which would most likely lose his job if he didn't imply otherwise) said this.
I, just, am skeptical. I'm not saying that I'm completely doubtful, but I would like to actually feel it in action. As someone who was really competitive in FPS games (like CS1.6 and stuff, I've learned that even 1-5ms, yes 1ms, can really throw off your game.
Think about it,...
Any of you who don't understand that competition is a good thing need to stop commenting.
You think business hinders it now? See how it stagnates after there's only one.
What is sub-HD to you? A good guide is 720p, but some might argue that 480p was the start of HD. If it's 720p, then a lot of ps3 AND 360 games were sub-HD. If it's 480p then a lot of 360 AND PS3 games were sub-HD. Do you see what I did there?
Current (soon to be last gen) games had a very similar native resolution than the new Gen. Here's a quick find of early launch games: http:...
@Hokie: "I'm willing to let them work out the kinks. In a year you won't be able to tell the difference between x1 and ps4 visually." /@
Look, you used oblivion vs skyrim, and I'm laughing because bethesda never figured out the ps3. I'm not defending the ps3, but I think that was a lot different than ESRam is to Cell. However, I'm going to quote the article in mention to help explain my skepticism (I cut out a lot so it's not a lengthy read ...
"This means that the show CSI has been lying to you for quite a while – zoom and enhance is bullshit."
That made me laugh.
I can't wait to try them both to see for myself.
Personally, as someone who uses a ton of keybinds on Mouse and keyboard games, I see the value of the touchpad. However, if the controller is uncomfortable to someone else, I get that; which I'm not sold on the asymetical sticks being more comfortable argument.
It's all preference, though.
