They are. Every rumour, statement, and action, from Satya Nadella down, over the past year suggests they are investing in 1st party content. You just have to look.
@cooperndizzle it's not that you shouldn't care, it's that you shouldn't care about EA being on this list as much as putting other companies on it who are doing much more heinous things than putting m/t into a videogame.
@gamerz No, it's like saying there are more serious issues that this list should draw attention to. An entertainment companies inclusion of m/t etc pales in comparison to the genuine crimes some companies are committing. If people can't see that, the world really is screwed. It speaks volumes about the maturity of many people on n4g.
@PUBG if he lives in a capitalist society, he won't have much choice, will he? What you have said is like saying if you have a fridge full of food, you shouldn't give to charity to help people who are starving. I can't believe you are defending "big pharma", after everything we know about their practices. You are either brainwashed, or a shareholder or someone who profits from their practices, and I don't know which is worse.
@aspiringprogenji "what does that have to do with gaming". Really? The list is for worst companies, not worst gaming companies. Which is why EA's inclusion is ridiculous in the grand scheme of things. If you can't see that you need to re-evaluate your priorities.
Exactly, Monsanto, and many mining and pharmaceutical companies to name but a few sectors are genuinely destroying communities and the world we live in to such a degree that it seems silly to put EA on such a list. If it was a list for the most hated companies in entertainment, ok, but there are companies making money from the deaths and misery of humans across the globe that put the policies of EA in perspective.
@aspiringprogenji if you can't see anything wrong with fawning over a businessman you have the same problem he does. The man did nothing but try to make as much money for Sony as possible, in order to further his career, don't pretend he is some sort of philanthropist who deserves the kind of respect you are giving him, because, like nearly all high level businessmen, he isn't. He didn't create games, he didn't do anything for the good of humanity, he just made money for h...
Can't believe people are saying this is a bad thing. Xbox gamers get to play the games they love for only 10 bucks a month, which, if you are a real gamer is a steal. Keep deflecting tho Sony fans, while you wait for a similar deal on ps.
@colonel Hugh Sony is worth about 40 billion, while ms has at least 135 billion just in its savings account at the moment. Look it up.
@cooperndizzle you do realise that the "philosophy of a company" changes all the time too? With the financial wind usually. Anyway, no big company has any true "philosophy" other than make as much money as possible for their shareholders and directors. To think anything else is very, very naive.
@s2killinit yes, I did read it as a serious comment, because this is n4g, where Sony fanboys put the sony company on a pedestal above anyone or anything. He obviously meant what he said, as he defended his comment to numerous people. But you are 100% right, he is delusional.
Are you so pathetic you need to pay homage to a business man who's 1 mission is to take as much money from you as possible? Please tell me, what is it about the company you "love"? The owners? They are faceless shareholders who change on an hourly basis. Or is it the products they make? Well they change all the time too. Or is it the people that make said products? Well I hate to break it to you, but Sony uses 3rd party manufacturers like foxcon to make their products.
@lime so the only shipped numbers you found were from 2011? That only serves my point, the only reason they released those numbers was because at that time, PS3 started to sell more on a regular monthly basis. But that was 6 years into an 8 year generation. The majority of the Wii's sales were left to rot, the consoles simply weren't used for an extended period after purchase. Saying they sold a billion games doesn't make it relevant, when you leave out similar sales data for the ...
Sony didn't reveal sold PS3 numbers at the time either, what's your point? All companies only reveal numbers if they are number 1, which is why ms are prepared to reveal their mid-gen upgrade has outsold Sony's in the corresponding month. MAU numbers are a much better reflection of how many people are actually using your hardware. You can sell all the units in the world, but if they are sitting unused in a cupboard, they make far less money than if the consumer is a regular user. ...
Although it would be a great move to buy sega, as presumably all the great i.ps (many of which is no longer being used) would come with it, it's not really possible for ms to buy a Japanese company outright, as Japan has very protectionist laws concerning foreign acquisition's of Japanese companies.
Your comment speaks volumes about the obvious bias you have against ms. What was ms going to do with the Xbox 1 that was different from steam? People say "they wouldn't allow used games", which was bollocks, they would allow used games as long as the vendor was connected to Xbox live and Devs and publishers got a cut of each used sale. Game pass IS good for gamers, as it lowers the financial barrier of entry to play these games. The economics obviously work, otherwise they would...
You have no idea how the game pass deals work. It could be that the publisher is paid when the game is downloaded and played, and also paid for putting it on there in the 1st place. Game pass only needs to have enough subscribers to make it a profitable exercise, as publishers would prefer a monthly income rather than recouping most of their investment in the few weeks after release, with all the risk that entails. Even the best selling games sell to only a fraction of the console install bas...
You do realise ms has enough capital to perform a hostile takeover of Sony if they really wanted to? If they are serious about taking the gaming market by the balls, which all the rumours from the past year suggest, there is nothing that Sony, Nintendo, or all your fellow fanboys in the world could do about it.
The n4g community has shown their true colours, (as if we didn't know already), as only rabid sony fanboys would say this is bad for the gamer.
So if they opened a studio, and took the best names in the business from other publishers, that would be better? It doesn't matter how they do it, as long as they get there.
