W for anyone who likes COD, but doesn't want to/can't justify having to pay 70 bucks. W for nintendo gamers, who, for the first time in over a decade, will get access to a Call of Duty game. W for the employees of Activision, who have reportedly had some pretty terrible working conditions under Kotick's leadership, but will now be part of msft, which is comparitively an amazing place work. W for GP subs, who will now see Activision/Blizzard's library become available for no ex...
Wild how sony had the temerity to cry to regulators about xbox possibly making cod exclusive, even though msft have said cod will remain multiplat, after sony bought bungie...the creators of xbox's mascot, and said "don't worry, bungie games will stay multiplat". What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Psygnosis were one of the biggest publishers in the business, their games accounted for 40 percent of ALL European videogame sales. Name 1 existing game xbox have removed from another console.
@Soulmaster Yeah, they bought Psygnosis to build their 1st party portfolio, and to make software for the rapidly approaching launch if their first console. You know, after their deal to make a cd addon for nintendo fell through?
There is absolutely no difference between sony buying 1 of the biggest publishers in the business in order to build a 1st party portfolio in the 90s, and xbox buying 1 of the biggest publishers in the business in order to build their 1st party portfolio today...
What? The amount of money is irrelevant. And as for size, psygnosis accounted for 40 percent of ALL videogame sales in Europe in the years around when sony acquired them. Much bigger share than abk has today.
Lmao! They "fostered" them? No, they really didn't. How did they "foster" psygnosis? Or how did they "foster" eidetic? Acquisitions of this type are part and parcel of the industry, and sony wrote the playbook on acquiring studios to expand their portfolio.
So many people trying to bend history to suit their own biases. Xbox isn't gobbling up competitors to monopolise the market...they are in 3rd place in the console market, and have had a defecit of 1st party studios when compared to its competitors for some time, (a fact that many ppl seem eager to remind xbox fans of). In order to remedy this, they are investing in software developers and publishers to expand their 1st party portfolio, and provide a reliable stream of titles for its GP su...
So you rather kotick remain in charge? That's what you are saying?
Really? You had to dig that deep? An 11 year old article that got no traction? No, the Microsoft that is under entirely new leadership. The Microsoft who has a 90% plus rating on glass door. You must be desperate to spend time looking for an article over a decade old.
The reaction here has proven how lopsided in favour of Sony the media is.
You could say the same of Sony. And BTW, the alternative is tencent or amazon owning activision, or kotick staying in charge. Xbox didn't make activision sell, activision was looking for buyers, and msft came along at the right time with the right offer. The conditions for employees at activision blizzard will definitely get better thanks to this deal. That makes it a positive.
If its anything like Bethesda they won't be drip fed...they'll surprise us subs 1 Tuesday with the entire back catalogue becoming available.
Its nowhere near to being "monopolistic behaviour". It's called "vertical integration". A console maker is buying a games maker. If it was horizontal integration, which would be like if msft bought Sony, then there would be a problem. Every legal expert worth his salt says the same thing...that this will go through.
Bill gates left Microsoft and is no longer even on the board. Also, what do you mean "get more powerful"? They are already regularly the richest company on the planet. How much more powerful can they get?
Except its not just Microsoft consolidating, its also tencent, Google, amazon, Facebook, Sony, embracer group and more. After all the turmoil, activision was looking to sell, and the rumour is that msft approached them in October, which is why msft was busy over the usual quiet holiday period. The only companies with enough capital are Microsoft, tencent, amazon, facebook or Google or embracer group. Who would you rather get activision? Msft or tencent/google/amazon/embracer ? It's the be...
I think you need to "read a book" as every one of your comments says the same thing. The problems at activision are well known, and extreme. No company is perfect but msft is by all accounts (glass door etc) a safe place to work. You see, there are websites where employees can anonymously post reviews of their workplace, which would count as "historical evidence" as you put it, and none of those show that msft is a bad place to work.
They haven't tried to improve anything for nigh on a decade...GREED is the reason they never innovated. Not because they knew their contract was ending. They had no clue up until relatively recently.
@Christopher quick resume isn't about "hopping between games", it makes games you regularly play have virtually no loading times, even after the console is unplugged from the power outlet. It means if you use your console for anything other than playing 1 game at a time, and nothing else, you are straight into the games you want to play near enough instantly. Imagine this; you are playing cod campaign, and decide you want to watch some Netflix or youtube before bed, so you go to...
Interesting to see sony implement the much mocked "snap" feature from the old xbox one ui. Admittedly, with those jaguar cores it didn't work quite as well as intended on xb1, and thanks to the new cpu it will no doubt work much better on ps5, but interesting to see them implement the feature nonetheless. The "command centre" also looks remarkably like the "guide menu" the nxoe brought to xb1 in 2016. I'm not saying it's 1 way btw, I mean XSX has a sh...
"Xbox kids port begging"? Talk about projection. Ive never seen xbox fans start "change.org" petitions to bring sony 1st party games to xbox, like sony fanboys have done with starfield. I've also never seen xbox fans start petitions to make a developer stop developing a game because "they don't deserve it", as sony fanboys did with Hideo Kojimas new xbox exclusive. Games like FF16 and 7R aren't 1st party exclusives that sony had anything to do with de...
