I can't believe how well PS2 is still selling in the emerging markets. It's only shipped a million units less than the 360 for the year so far.
In regards to the DS sales decline, it's painfully clear that 3DS anticipation is dampening sales. Just look at what happened in September NPD, the DS actually decreased in average weekly sales despite the fact that it got a price cut that month.
They'll most likely give the official release date with quarterly reports on the 29th. But this is probably real.
According to Media Create Wii is 241 units shy of having its lowest selling week ever in Japan.
9/21/2009 - 9/27/2009
DSi – 63,342
PS3 – 39,960
PSP – 17,334
DS Lite – 15,057
Wii – 11,731
Xbox 360 – 4,854
PS2 – 2,347
I'm done worrying about the Wii's situation. Whatever happens will happen.
Are they talking US or worldwide? MS themselves said they're shooting for 3 million this year. 3.5 million first week is a pipe dream.
The PS2 is still very much alive and kicking, although mostly because of developing nations. It shipped 1.5 million units last quarter. It might be mostly dead in the west but that doesn't mean Sony should discontinue it totally.
I really can't believe Wii didn't rise at all (well ok it increased by 700 units, but that's just statistical noise) with Kirby releasing. It really is on the downslope there. PSP and DS continuing to own face. I can hardly wait to see what PSP does when MH3P comes out. Good job PS3, I'm surprised it rose with nothing coming out this week.
Ah geez, now I'm getting all nostalgic. I think I'll go load up Final Fantasy VII.
Damn, and I just bought Blade Kitten earlier today. Whenever news like this comes out it makes me worried about the state of the gaming industry.
Rockstar/Take-Two have really done a pretty good job of garnering a Japanese following. I could be wrong but I think GTA4 and MW2 are the only western-developed games to crack 300k in Japan this gen.
I said after adjustments. The numbers are subject to change as more data comes in.

PS3 outsold 360 in EMEAA this week. And after adjustments it did it 2 weeks ago as well. It even outsold DS that week.
Thank god I preordered mine months ago. Have it all paid off too.
PS3 has been adjusted up. It's 69k now and ahead of 360. Basically statistically tied though.
In the case of quarter 4 2006 Microsoft very heavily stuffed the channel. There was such a huge excess left in the channel at the end of the year that they barely shipped anything in quarter 1 and 2 2007. Admittedly they also stuffed it again in Q4 2007 but not nearly to the same degree as 2006.

"In a note to investors, analyst firm Wedbush Morgan revealed that sales of Nintendo's Wii were down 45 per cent year-on-year with 254,000 units sold, while Sony shifted 312,000 PlayStation 3 units, down 37 per cent."

The NPD synopsis said that PS3 and PSP increased their average weekly sales compared to last month so PS3 sold at least 283k and PSP at least 100k. First time Wii has been in third place among home consoles this entire gen according to NPD.
Pretty cool article. Pachter's views on Move and Kinect are rather interesting. And personally I don't think Black Ops will top MW2 either, although I think it will come close. And I really don't see a Wii price cut until next year either. The value-added bundles should be more than enough to give it a very good holiday.
