Devs. Please.... if you take away anything from this article... it's this:
Every game, every single one coming to the market should have at least an OPTION of a 60fps locked mode. 30fps is horrible. Coming from my 144hz PC gaming setup, it is almost impossible for me to play 30fps nowadays. Feels like I'm playing on a PS1 @ 15fps.
I'm sure w/ the Xbox One X many titles will be able to run 1440p upscaled at 60fps. That would be a perfect mid ...
@dcbronco. It's called having a great job, no debt and a lot of disposable income. $2600 is a lot of money, but a relatively small amount compared to other things I do in life. I will take 3 vacations this year as well, you REALLY wouldn't want to hear about those. They would make you jealous :-)
The cost/value of items is all relative. I like expensive things, luckily, I can afford them well without being in debt!
As a devil's advocate (and being a high end PC owner...) It is just pure fun to have 11-14Tflops of power to throw at games and play at Ultra 4k/60fps or 1440p/144hz in 90% of games out there. Does it cost more? Oh he lls yes it does! Is it worth it? I spent $2600 on my beast rig and wouldn't trade it for anything. You haven't lived until you've seen Witcher 3 at Ultra settings/60fps solid on a 4k OLED TV. Last friend I showed it to took about 45 seconds before his jaw came up...
As a PC owner, I will agree "maintain" is false unless you have a watercooled monster that needs some extra attention every once in awhile. However, Build and Upgrade are certainly concerns everyone who owns a console should consider. Don't get me wrong.... I love my 14TF 1080TI monster of a PC, but it certainly didn't cost $499. Steam is godly though. No platform on consoles can touch Gaben and his holyness.
Yup. My 6700k OC'd to 4.5 and 1080TI OC'd to 1950 is sitting at roughly 14 Tflops of raw compute power. I've been gaming at native 4k/60fps for over a year now. Arguing console power is like 2 bums arguing over which one of them has the most change in their begging cups. lol.
It will always be the ammunition of fanboys to gloat about the power of the console in the power lead. PS fans did it the entire time PS was ahead in power. You will ALWAYS have to talk about the games AND the resolution or performance of those games. Just because your favorite console is in 2nd place power wise, doesn't mean you get to flip an "off" switch, so people stop talking about power. It has always been part of the discussion and it will always be part of the discussion...
The PS4 went from 1.84 Tflops to 4.2 Tflops with the PS4 Pro
The Xbone went from 1.3 Tflops to 6.0+ Tflops with the Xbox One X.
For those saying that this is a mid gen, small increase.... yeah, no. This jump in power is beyond substantial and would EASILY be considered a whole new generation power wise. I would so much rather that both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X lock every single game to 60fps solid, then see how high they can get the graphical fidelity without ever dropping one single frame. 30fps is godawful cancer. One of many reasons why PC is king: Choices to do what YOU want to do.

Xbox One X should target 60fps above all else on EVERY game. Games should be built around 60fps. Then, once you can get that locked add as much detail as you can
Actually, this is very true to me. As a person who has been gaming since the early 80's, I've already played all of these games. I want to experience new, amazing looking games. BC is great on Xbone, but I can't even tell you the last time I used it. Every one wants it, of course, because they want more options. Who doesn't want all of the options? but.... at the expense of what? How much extra time, how much extra money? It really doesn't matter much to me tbh.
I will never forgive them for the atrocity that was Andromeda. My favorite franchise in gaming down the toilet.

This is why being a PC gamer is so awesome. I pick how much I want to spend on my system, and then choose which settings I wish to play at. Pay more for the hardware? Of course. You always pay more for the best things in life.

I'm running one 1080TI OC'd to 1950 and I don't have to compromise very much. I would say 90% of games play 4k/60 Ultra. Another 5-7% play at a mix of high/ultra at 4k/60 and then there are the 2-3% outliers like WIldlands that you have to turn down a lot of settings to run 4k/60. That is really good for one card. Without nostalgia in place, Witcher 3 is objectively better in basically every single way than Skyrim.
Every single game on the Pro and Scorpio (when it's released) should have these options. Higher res for people who can actually stand 30fps and a solid 60fps mode for people like me that like their framerates smooth as butter with NO drops, at all, whatsoever. 60fps should be an option for EVERY single game going forward. No exceptions. Ever. I will GLADLY take a lowered resolution or a little less detail for a smooth gaming experience. 30fps is simply never acceptable in 2017.... oh, and I don't care what games were like 10 years ago either.
