In the same way that mobile games are the norm, sure, but the high-end/enthusiast/hardcore market will never jump board. It doesn't matter how much bandwidth your internet has, the real problem will always be latency, and that's a physics barrier that will never be broken. The only plausible solution I can imagine would maybe some sort of predictive machine learning type workaround, but even that seems very unlikely.
Not exactly, the PS5 has pretty unique dedicated hardware for the SSD controller. RTX IO is attempting to provide something similar, possibly even better, but it's certainly not something that's on every platform with an SSD.
PS5 tech is definitely proprietary. It's a custom designed coprocessor. Something could be created with similar/better performance, like RTXIO for example, but it wouldn't be the same tech.
Yes, but the IO controllers on the consoles are dedicated coprocessors. Not saying AMD couldn't put something similar to this in a GPU, but the console architecture would have nothing to do with it.
Not that I agree with this score, I haven't played the game, but that's not how the scores work at all.
Good, than those dev's games better hit 4K@120fps with ray tracing.
Man, I wish the PC and console games were the same. First Ace Combat and now Journey to Savage Planet. 2 games I would have really liked to play on Game Pass PC.
9 times out of 10, it just means "like Metroid".
1440p is not 2K, that's a common misuse of the term. 2K is to HD what 4K is to UHD. 1440p is actually called QHD.
Regardless, I agree. 1080/1440p @ 120fps might be possible, but definitely not with raytracing. I don't think 4K@120fps will happen with or without raytacing.
I think TVs that have games in mind will support 1440p signal, my new TV does, and at 120hz as well (LG C9), it also supports g-sync/vrr. I agree with you if you're just referring to upscaling to UHD (4K), might as well. But if you're referring to native 4K@120hz, that'll never happen on any big budget game. You will need a TV to support HDMI 2.1 and the new Ultra High Speed HDMI cables for 4K@120hz though.
Mine does and g-ync/vrr too. I currently play PC games at 1440p/120fps with g-sync on it. I think the new consoles will be be able to as well if the rumored specs are true.
It's an LG C9 in case you're curious.
At this point, I think it's safe to say Sony isn't just "skipping" E3.
I guess it depends on what you define as "massive". Going from what are basically laptop APUs from 2013 (with super fast memory), to upper mid tier gaming components in 2020 is going to allow for some pretty significant changes to the art pipeline. That said, I'll be happy with a PS4 level fidelity if it has significant improvements to LODs and shadows and runs at 60fps+/1440p+. I do definitely expect huge improvements in CPU related tasks like animation, physics, AI, and cloth/...
That's not really the same thing because devs don't engineer their pipelines for that level of power as a baseline, they're just scaling up from a pipeline that was designed for what are essentially supercharged laptop APUs.
If you're referring to the same tweet I think you are, they referenced something like 7 franchises in that tweet. It was more of a joke than anything else, so I wouldn't get your hopes up based on that alone. Personally, I'm hoping for Soul Reaver, even if it is extremely unlikely.
It has, but it hasn't really affected me too much. I don't ever buy any season passes, dlc, or microtransactions of any kind, and if the game is not balanced without them, I just simply don't play it. There are tons of games that either don't have them or are well balanced, so I don't ever need to waste my time or money with this crap.
@Tech5
TR Legend failed? What? They made 2 more games with the same engine and formula. Granted, Anniversary was also a remake of the original Core Design game, but even so, it's the best game in the entire franchise imo.
Couldn't agree more. The reboots have their moments, but exploration, puzzle-solving, and platforming are all far superior in the first Crystal Dynamics trilogy (Anniversary, etc) and even in some of the original Core Design games.
Sleeper hit? It's one of the biggest games of year.
It's not Game Boost, it's a patch.
