I can argue that there were ZERO mistakes made with the Playstation 3:
1) Supposed arrogance (get 2 jobs to pay for one).
When you launch a product a year after the market leader for that generation at that time (the Xbox360) you need to have a compelling reason why consumers (those who've alreday bought an Xbox360 and those who haven't bought any Hd console yet) should have an 'affair' with you instead of sticking with the Xbox360.
One compell...
Following the money does not necessarily lead to anything except that one off promised pot of money.
I wonder why Americans seem to use the word 'aggressive' as a synonym of 'seductive', 'generous' or even of 'eloquently detailed in what their business plan is'.
It's like they have a sporting mentality hardwired in to their business spirit as well.
When you're being aggressive in sport it's regarded as a plus because you can dominate your opponents (in theory).
But it's strangely overkill langu...
That must have been one of the worst training sessions in history in Rare's case.
Did it go something like this:
'Right team. We've shipped Starfox Adventures. That did OK for right now. But now we're on Xbox and one of the things that people love from us is original platforming games'.
'Ermm.. we've already started making Conker: Live and reloaded.'
'OK. A sequel. well we did that with Ban...
Thanks to ripping off people with Xbox Live?
"city like Chicago has never really been done before"
A few racing games and Perfect Dark and Timesplitters 2 Chicago level generally.
But not done to this extent.
I really hate how the Xbox brand has become so synomomous with 'males in space'. Halo, Gears of War, Mass Effect. Don't any of you actually want to spend your imaginations on this planet? It's like the Xbox brand is one big American homoerotic fest for people who hate planet Earth.
Jet Set Radio Future
Voodoo Vince
Grabbed by the ghoulies
Alan Wake
This is what I want to see on Xbox One - not just in HD but also intervi...

Drake's Fortune was a pretty decent game of its time.
It quite simply made the 'Tomb Raider'-like genre popular again.
It was arguably the only game that properly got to grips with the cell engine early on. In fact I'd argue that some of its cut scenes have a slightly cartoony freshness to them that is the equal of any of the games in the entire series! (The later games were slightly grittier in visual style).
It has a puzzle level tha...
Xbox One has its advantages but they are subtle or not asked for by games players in comparison to the PS4.
I will say that the Xbox One has well made equipment. But this will be lost on the imaginary market that Microsoft are presumably relying on of previously non-game playing 'soccer moms' sitting down with their son and trying out Kinect Fitness when he's at school.
Microsoft have a 1950s sales strategy of self improvement.

What difference will that make? It'll just make the Xbox One more generic. Ask for a price cut by all means but why get rid of the Kinect for those who don't mind it in the box.
I agree with Gecko. The closest Japan has been influential on Western tastes is with Mario, Sonic, Resident Evil and Silent Hill. For a few years mid 2000s there were a plethora of survival horror games from Japan which are .. interesting.. (see the unusual Haunting Ground) but they didn't sell massively and were of antiquated game mechanics.
By the time of the N64 British studio Rare were arguably outdoing Nintendo. Then Scandinavian Remedy with Max Payne. Then the US st...
I've never seen a business model like Sony's with Playstation Plus.
It's incredibly refreshing. If anything it's to be hoped they don't go too crazy and end up like Sega's finances did with the Dreamcast.
You never feel that you're being taken for a ride money-wise with Sony. And they have so many games released.
I just can't help feeling that the vast majority of people simply don't deserve this goodness. ...
Who disagrees? Xbox was the second best selling 128 bit console (approx 24 million). Gamecube had just short of 22 million. Fact.
You sound like a Microsoft corporate member of staff- they use the word 'eco system'. And 'eco' is short for economics in their case it could be argued!
With Phil Spencer in charge who's indicated he likes indie games and early Xbox games I would expect a blast from the past now (or in that style).
Something like another Voodoo Vince (I never played the original).
The original Xbox is claimed to have ranked second, not third, of the 128 bit generation:
1) PS2
2) Xbox
3) Gamecube
4) Dreamcast
I've never been interested in Gears of War or Halo.
The amount of money they pour in to these overblown fantasy projects... even if I was a fan, I'd be saying 'You've had a few games now to say everything that you might need to say'.
Give me Uncharted or The Last of Us any day over these things. To think they could be funding some developer like Quantic Dream and instead they spunk most of their money on fat chinned men and sports programm...
Considering that you can create your own levels on Little Big Planet and you could theoretically, and far more easily for the average member of public than normal, turn that in to a fully fledged game with which you could make money hence you would have a business product, the 'little practical use' says more about the limits of your human imagination where you might further hamper those with 'but would it be worth it? I don't even have any ideas' kind of considerations- t...
