That's a strong comment.

Possibly a fair one considering how vibrantly it melds things yet I wonder how many people getting so excited for this ever bought Jet Set Radio Future? (which was certainly significantly different enough from the Dreamcast Jet Set Radio to be worth a buy). Anyone who never bought that game is kind of responsible for why we've had to wait over a decade for a game that's in some way like it.

I think that reviews will be a l...

I wish people wouldn't mention Pixar in comparison to this game.

Pixar insist on 'meaningful family-oriented story' in their films. This game is the antithesis of that - pure fun, none of your sentimentalism except for whatever sentiment you happen to create in your own head as a result of enjoying aspects of the game.

OK- I know they mean the visual style of the game. But Sunset's cool spin on a cel-shade type style - flashy neon and ultra br...

The WiiU is actually Nintendo's best opportunity to innovate.
It's their Dreamcast- with the exception that even if it doesn't sell massively it's not going to force them to become fully third party unless they really want to because their handhelds keep them afloat.

Now a sobering thought - if the WiiU is their Dreamcast then the original Wii might have been their Saturn (which sold more or less exactly the same as the Dreamcast). In terms of long ter...

Well I didn't even do that. Even when Super Mario Galaxy got such high scores and people went a little overboard about seeing realistic Link in The Twilight Princess, all I could think about - and all i do really- is those stupid Miis , the too casual Shopping Channel like presentation of their interfaces and the masses of casual games making the Wii terminally uncool. The Wii was like a NES lightgun game to me- I didn't need to control games like that, least of all such ordinary look...

This advert was so 'casual professional' that it even disguised how casual it was.

I mean, the gaming / football split screen is to be expected. It's a good feature.

But the ending was the most telling when he receives a phone call. Not a video call by Skype on his Xbox One.
A phone call on his possibly nondescript mobile phone. Not even necessarily one with Microsoft Windows on it. After all , he's a real person.

Then...

You're right DarXyde. Out of the 3, Sony came across as a little bit chippy- having to remind people that multiformats will probably look a little bit better on PS4.

I didn't like that they started with Destiny.
Ever since the Xbox360 started to become so popular, Sony have found themselves playing to Microsoft's tune sometimes. It's like they gave Destiny the status of their Halo or Titanfall. But it's not even an exclusive game and yet it was the...

Little Big Stagnate 3 .

The way they presented it is that there are a few new characters with new abilities and you can move in to the screen.

This should have been a series that needed just 1 game and everything else be downloadable expansions / patches regardless of the generation.

Very possibly- Nintendo even has its own Sunset Overdrive-like eye watering colours game lined up for the WiiU- Splatoon.

It's fortunate for Microsoft that Remedy only make games for them. Not having owned an Xbox since the original and probably not having a PC up to par, I've never played Alan Wake :(

A guess of mine:

I wouldn't be surprised if nearly a third of Gamecube owners didn't upgrade to a Wii (seeing it as a relative insult of a tech upgrade from the Cube) and this was masked by the huge number of 'casual' buyers of the Wii.

It's got 8 out of 10 written all over it to be honest.

It looks like a style piece of a game. All about setting a certain mood.

It's like a fan service of certain styles. A bit Dishonored in setting, a bit The Last of Us in some enemies / environments, a bit Insomniac (since they're not around on PS4 at the moment) in terms of guns.

They never claimed that the game would be revolutionary (although perhaps a sequel might be).

I haven't found Nintendo relevant to me as a hardware maker - and only infrequently for software- since the Gamecube.

This E3 2014 completely changed my mind about where THEIR minds are now. They are bringing innovations on their own terms and it looks beautiful. It was a very beautifully done presentation- fun, lively and talkative and it even took frank fun at Nintendo's reliance on Mario and all the frequent, ignored, calls for Starfox (something I don't mind a...

I think Splatoon's more like the WiiU's answer to Sunset Overdrive. Something that Sony doesn't have it's own eye watering colours equivalent of. Infamous is not the same style is it.

I recently put a blog on N4G about the WiiU not selling enough to really be worth them continuing as a hardware manufacturer.

Nintendo's presentation at E3 2014 was enough that it should have brought tears to my cynical eyes.

For the first time since Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube, I care about Nintendo. It's as if almost overnight they have grown out of the habit of merely showing a reskinned version of what they have done before. There was innovati...

'Microsoft's message should've been "Gamers! Xbox is the #1 place to play games! If you're considering PS4, you're making a mistake".'

No- that's not Phil Spencer's style at all. In fact, he openly praises Sony sometimes. It's safe to say that he does learn from them - hence why Inside, Limbo-maker Playdead's next game, has got Xbox One timed exclusivity.
It's the kind of indie game that helped to ma...

I get the feeling Sunset Overdrive was just destined to be for the Xbox One. Following in the footsteps of Xbox exclusive Jet Set Radio Future. Ideally placed to fill an Infamous-like shaped hole in Microsoft's line up.

And Sony exclusive games have been getting darker and darker with serious story a considerable part.
Sony don't quite do 'pure adrenaline arcadey fun' as much as Microsoft have done. Think of the original Xbox with all its platformers- ...

The influence of Dishonored, dragons in games and The Last of Us are all flavour of the year.

I think that Microsoft's E3 was very solid indeed, concisely about the games.

I think that, in terms of the exclusives or timed arrangements that I didn't previously know about (so not including Uncharted 4 which I did know about for example) Microsoft might even have won for my tastes.

Disney Fantasia
Ori and the Blind Forest
Inside (timed Xbox One exclusive from Playdead, makers of Phil Spencer favourite Limbo)

Little Big Planet 3? What on earth?

The PS3 will be looked upon as a Sony heyday you know.

Sony seem to need some fresh AAA ideas.

Although I'd welcome Motorstorm Aqua set around a water theme.

Nintendo might as well be for kids and eccentrics.

Nintendo are the equivalent of having a relative round who tells you the same story over and over again either forgetting that it's no longer fresh or hoping that you've forgotten that it's no longer fresh.
