Final Fantasy 11 did just fine with XBOX 360 and PS2 AND PC.
Doing it for PS3 can't be that far of a stretch.

Typically when games come to PS3 late, usually because the developer/publisher was paid to do a timed exclusive for XBOX 360, The PS3 "tardy version" usually sells a paltry fraction of what it sold on the XBOX 360.
I like to use Bioshock as an example because to me there's no question that it was a AAA QUALITY title....its basically a proven game that sold approx 2.3 million units on the XBOX 360.

Remember, Bioware still has to make the game accessible and understandable for new comers to the series.
Also, if Bioware wanted to port this game, assuming they didn't know how (although Dragon Age shows this isn't true), They could simply call in a good third party company to do it for them.
What seems to be more at work is the likely possibility that Microsoft has paid and/or incentivised Bioware/EA for this game....perhaps even the whole franchise.
Sony's needs to open more slots on the Friends list, especially if clans want to form or organize.
I'm probably gonna give it the "BIOSHOCK TREATMENT".
The only way I'd entertain buying this at its tardy state, is if they had both games (Mass Effect 1 and 2) on one BluRay Disk....and even then it would probably be an "iffy" buy.

Rather, Sony is going to charge for monthly or yearly for PREMIUM services, services like they have and charge for now such as movies, games and online magazine services.
Paying to play random games online is stupid to me, imo.

The reason that this won't happen aren't technical. I don't care what kind of network is running, there is ALWAYS a way to make 2 different networks talk to each other. It might take alot of servers and engineers to make it, but it could be done.
The reason that this is likely NOT to happen, even with Final Fantasy 14, is because Microsoft will not allow XBOX LIVE to be compromised.
In FF14's case, for example, what if Final Fantasy 14 becomes a hit and goes on to compete...
