Not all buyers of HD re-release have ever played original game (especially Okami which didn't sell much originally). Heck, a lot of buyers never even had PS2. I have bought several HD re-releases for PS3 which I have never played because I didn't even have PS2. And there are a lot of sequels which much worse than original so sequel isn't the same thing as playing original.
Although even USB 2.0 is much faster than either BR or DVD. This may sound strange but optical discs have never been fast.
Actually, it isn't pricey. Even printing 5 discs cost around 1 dollars. Printing manual and cover cost a lot more than discs. Heck, you could even print 8 discs and it still wouldn't be pricey. To speak the truth, 1 dual layered BR disc cost more than 5 DVD's.
@Cupid_Viper_3: Even contracts aren't forever and actor can also decide to leave whenever contract is being negotiated. They can't force him to continue and contract is void after he leaves and he can work for their worst competitors. Of course, character of Kevin Butler is owned by Sony but not Lambert if he isn't on their paylist. Even Messi could change from Adidas to Nike if Adidas decides his contract is too expensive or Messi decides to change sides when contracts are negoti...
@Disccordia: BR speed is not counted similarly to DVD. 1X Blu ray is around as fast as 3X DVD so PS3 BR is as fast as 6X DVD. And at least most 360 has 12X DVD (not 24X as you claim), but that is the maximum speed. Speed of 360 drive varies from 6-12X, so at the lowest it is as fast as PS3 drive. However, PS3 drive always works at the same speed. So on average 360 drive is faster but not as much as you think.
Just a small reminder... Most PC monitors can't even in theory show more than 60 fps. And even most of those monitors who claim to be 120 fps don't actually show more actual frames because the connection can only deliver 60 fps signal. Yes, those monitors shows 120 fps but it is using artificial frames just like TV's.
Remember, none of the movies made for theaters are more than 24 fps. Not even Avatar.
It wouldn't be so difficult, you could buy game every day and still wouldn't be able to buy nearly every game. And most games can be played through within 4-5 hours, shortest games in less than 2 hours (especially if count DLC but even some full games are so short) if you are good gamer. So you can even play through all those games if you only have time (and money). You only need relatively good income to use that much money. A lot of people with mediocre (or even low) income use more...
No, it is not enough. Cell might be quite fast (although it isn't as fast as claimed) but PS3 GPU is not fast enough for 1080p. Graphics are still handled mostly by GPU, NOT Cell. And PS3 GPU is slower now than practically any cheap GPU. So, they would have to change GPU too.
Even if they would add four times the RAM, 90% of the developers would still use 720p.
"You can play your PC with an Xbox360 or PS3 controller from your couch...on any viewing screen from multiple monitors to your HDTV. "
Except almost all games on PC are practically unplayable on Xbox360 or PS3 controller.
"Free MODS. "
I don't really care about mods. Game should work perfectly directly from package with 0 tweaking. Not to mention, 99.9% of the free mods are pure crap and only make game worse.
"Free...
@PotatoClock: My console has lasted 3,5 years easily and I have played with 8-year-old console too. I would say most consoles last even longer than normal PC (360 is an expection). And you don't pay $550 for PC because you also pay for OS, keyboard and mouse. Also, you have to count monitor to costs too unless you play PC on TV.
Oh, and you don't need to pay PSN+, if you don't want to. You don't need PSN+ to play online. You can even buy all PS3 games online w...
@quicksilver2011: Still, you are probably happy watching movies at 24 fps. Because ALL movies in theaters are made at 24 fps, even 3D movies.
Doesn't mean anything. Sony can announce falcom game although falcom wouldn't be on gamescom. It isn't that strange, it has been done many times before. And a lot of times games are announced outside conference. Heck, many gaming companies never even attend gaming conferences and still announce games. Most games are announced outside conferences. And there is Nintendo which NEVER attends Tokyo Game Show although it is very important conference for japanese. They always keeps separ...
I never got into PS Home. I sometimes log into it but never find anything interesting. It has very long loading times (even if they half loading time, it'd still be too slow), very tiny areas which are about as big as normal flat. Games are just horrible, none of them are much better than free games on web. Heck, a lot of them are much worse. Home is just dull place full of ads and absolutely nothing to do.
@Zeeshan: The trouble is that hardcore gamers are only tiny population compared to casual gamers. And most hardcore gamers don't even care about handheld gaming. If they only appeal to hardcore gamers, sales won't even reach anywhere near PSP levels. For example Uncharted is popular hardcore game series but probably can't even sell 2m copies on PSVITA while first real Mario game will easily get past 10m copies, probably even 15m copies (biggest games on DS has sold over 20m copies...
Well, I don't mind having cloud and digital downloads if it works and is significantly less expensive. And by minimum 50% less expensive because digital storing is just renting. You own nothing, you just rent. You can't own something which you can't sell. If game is sold for 60 euros at stores, I could consider "buying" it digitally for 30 euros (then again, most my games only cost max 20 euros, I rarely buy anything at full price). If it cost around the same price then ...
All movies are 24 frames per second and few complain about that at theaters. Difference between 30 fps and 60 fps is actually very minimal and most people can't see any difference. Oh, and most TV's and monitors can only show maximum 60 fps.
@ElementX: Even DS had very high piracy rate, almost as high as PSP. It is very easy to pirate DS carts and Wii has even more piracy than PS3. Propriety media doesn't have much effect on piracy, it never has.
Edit: Actually it took years before PS3 had pirated games on internet. Wii had them soon after it was released.
Companies don't care who makes Skype, they use products which are good for their business and has right price. Sony PC's have always had Windows and probably several other MS products. MS Office is made for Mac and it is still the most popular office suite on Mac.
Companies don't have such bias as fanboys. For example Toshiba and Sony had HD-DVD vs Blu Ray fight and Sony won. Still, Sony sold all their Cell prosessor factories to Toshiba. Now, Cell prosessors in ...
@Oldman100: Most people can't even recognise normal MP3 audio from CD audio. Very few can distinguish between uncompressed and compressed 5.1 audio anyway (less than 1%, if compression is done right) and even then you need high-end audio equipment which is rare. Speakers alone would have to cost minimum $1000 to distinguish compressed from uncompressed even in theory.
Umm, mods aren't usually cheating and a lot of times developers provide mod tools with the game and instructions for them. Developers are usually just happy that people make mods as long as it doesn't involve cheating or piracy.
