What's frustrating is I can't seem to find anywhere whether dx12 will be available for windows 7...But then I guess I haven't looked extensively.
^ That's actually just speculation.
they've had investors drop 100 million into Occulus before the buyout. They weren't just working with 2.5 million
*You're
and Zuckerberg dropped what? 16 billion for Whatsapp? It was clear that the young facebook crowd got sick of seeing of their families posts of what they had for dinner. Whatsapp was where that crowd was going to. Zuckerberg was smart for doing what he needs to do to make sure facebook survives....but ya
Occulus was touted as gaming hardware in their startup. It was demonstrated as gaming hardware. They worked with game developers and game companie...
what it'll do is ensure that cool kickstarter projects like this never get off the ground
you don't get bought out for 2 billion and start telling people that you still have full control and nothings gonna change.
Palmer seems to think so, which just goes to show at age 21 you know everything yet know nothing.
I agree It's like watching your favorite team lose the super bowl...
Zuckerbergs not even thinking about gaming with ORift. He's already stated that he's looking to pioneer VR social media.
It's frustrating. Valve helped Occulus with their tech and sharing information back and forth. Then they turn around and give them the middle finger.
Facebook now owns alot of the technology that makes consumer level VR gaming possible...
Their focus is social/media first, gaming second. Nothings keeping facebook from sitting on this tech if their social vr experiments fail...And they will fail.
You're better off investing in an Occulus. There's no guarantee your VR investment will even last beyond the ps4 generation.
Plus you have Sony's history of not supporting their own peripherals. It's kind of a no brainer.
Are they trying to get people to stop taking them serious?
Because that's how you get people to stop taking you seriously.
I wouldn't worry too much for Occulus. They aren't limited by console hardware. What breaks VR immersion is low frame rates and resolution. Something that Sony and M$ will struggle with.
Fair point but the Occulus Devs already have their product being tested by consumers and game developers. You know you are in a good place when Valve suspends their own VR product because they have confidence in yours.
Sony looks like they are just figuring out what they want out of their own headset. The next logical step after the Morpheus announcement for the gaming industry is to start talking about tech specs and seeing who's gonna be on board to develop games.
This is where Morpheus talk should be going. Anybody familiar with VR tech knows that immersion is killed if the frame rates aren't there.
He's talking about Occulus Rift showing the world that the world doesn't see VR as a gimmick if it's done right.
Sony saw the interest and the attention Occulus Rift was creating and hopped along for the me too bandwagon
Sort of like how tablets existed before the ipad yet it was Apple that decided to make it commercially viable.
they aren't competing with each other. Why would Morpheus put any strain on OR devs?
An overhyped trend on/as a console sure.
Still VR tech on consoles imo is still a generation too soon. Hardware limitations will be it's achilles heel. Whereas PC technology has reached a point where Rift developers don't have to worry so much about it.
Reserving judgement is the correct decision. 1080p gaming is where most pc gamers will be looking. BUT dx12 remains to be seen.
Let's see how far out of touch Microsoft is with its gaming user base. If DX12 is locked to windows 8+ then Mantle will be a strong contender for years to come.
720p 30fps would just make you sick.
I'm not of the opinion that the crowd funders should get refunded because they got their dev kit as promised.
But I'm disappointed that the consumer level tech that was created is now in a corporations hands that make their money through advertising. If they change their vision on what Occulus should be and it fails they will simply sit on those patents.
Meaning those dreams we all had when we were kids and VR gaming would be delayed who knows how man...
