It's probably a dumb question, but I haven't really paid much attention to blue ray yet.
I think that backwards compatibility will be important for any next gen console released.
MS could launch the Nextbox as a console only. perhaps allowing users to use their existing 360 HDD, controllers, Natal, and most importantly games.
perhaps the next gen may be more of a built it yourself type thing.
Saving some dollars for the users as they can upgrade to next gen accessorys as they can afford them.
I can agree with the logic of this.
Microsoft probably will want to release first, hopefully they can avoid a repeat of the RROD fiasco of this gen.
Gaining market share is what this industry is all about and the first to launch will have an advantage in gaining the lion's share.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see MS build up there 1st party portfolio next gen.

I just don't think the handheld market is big enough for another competitor outside of Japan, and it's safe to say Nintendo and Sony have that locked up.
The guts of the question being asked is, can good software trump good hardware?
In my opinion yes it can I can only speak from experience with the 360 as I do not own a PS3 but the Halo, Gears of War, and Fable series have been very lucrative for Microsoft.
As long as MS continue to build on these franchises with the likes of Crackdown, Forza and Viva Pinata I believe they can hold up pretty well.

While I wouldn't count out the PS3 being able to outsell the 360 I personally beleave that (RROD aside) Microsoft have been very competitive this gen, and will be happy with the improved install base and xbox live subscribers they have pulled in.
What I'm trying to say is "victory" for Sony and MS are probably different things, Sony went in to this gen as the industry's giant and leader and anything less after this gen will be seen as a defeat.

Yet another high quality multiplatform game on its way.
I had been looking forward to this game for a while but had forgotten about it recently.
Red Dead along with Batman AA, Mass Effect 2 and Splinter cell are at the top of my must play list.
It's all a matter of preference.
I have enjoyed most of the 360 exclusives to date, but won't get bent out of shape if someone else finds them lacking in a certain department.
Molyneux is certainly has allot of enthusiasm for what he does, as the Fable series is fast becoming a cornerstone of the xbox experience along with Halo and Gears.
I hope both Fable 3 and Milo and kate prove to be a success for Lionhead and Microsoft.

Your Right of course if the 360 and PS3 were launched at the same time the brand recognition of the Playstation would have considerably outsold the 360.
Thats my opinion and i'm an 360 fan.
But we all know MS's best bet was to launch early and gain market share and that is what this gen has been all about for MS.

Sorry your quite right about the price of the arcade being $350, Just done some snooping around different retailers and $345 is the average arcade price.
I haven't seen the new price in NZ dollars yet, I got $799 for the 80gb PS3 from the Dlck Smith web page. I had assumed the price cut had not come into effect yet.
