The Wii was a market anomaly, it shouldn't be used as a metric of anything, other than the proof of market anomalies. It's the only one the industry has had in it's existence.
Most of it's sales were to people that aren't even in the target gaming demographic. Does your Aunt have a PS4? Probably not and she probably won't buy a Switch either, like she didn't buy a Wii U.
It's only for games that released in 2016.
Lol. Exactly.
Again, showing the console market in Japan has changed. But I agree, Lightning hurt the franchise.
This isn't as bad as it looks. There are about half the PS4's in Japan as there were PS3's at the time of both releases.
Alot of people missed this footage of Horizon.

This game is going to be epic.
@darthv
They sold better than anyone could have imagined. Especially, when compared to the production cost.
I knew Microsoft would mess up. The tail end of the 360 was terrible and I think people underestimated that. The PS3 ended so strong and again I think people underestimated that. It`s the software, PlayStation will always have them beat in the long term during a console cycle and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
2017 is going to be off the charts on PS4.
@feju
"Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced that PlayStation®4 (PS4™) has cumulatively sold through more than 50 million units to ->consumers<- worldwide as of December 6, 2016"
That's sold through, not sold in.
"best ever Black Friday week in the history of PlayStation"
That's a pretty big deal.
Trust me. Every big company (including Square Enix) thought the Xbox One was going to dominate the industry, until they saw the reaction. They were all in a wait and see mode though, which is why there were so many remasters at the beginning of this generation. Just Cause 3 for example, was designed as a F2P MP game originally.
After the success of the PS4 they all changed their tune.
I posted this in a different article on here but it pretty much answers your question.
PS4's 2017 Line-up

Plus a bunch of Remasters (like Crash, PaRap...
The Xbox One had a strong start with 2nd/3rd party exclusive support, so did the 360, but then dwindled off midway through last generation. The same thing seem to be happening with the Xbox One, it just happened faster because it got so far behind.
I think the Xbox Division love Xbox, but I'm not sure Microsoft does.
I completely agree with you. But the question you have to ask is why they aren't, they can. People have been saying this for almost 10 years now.
I'm trying to find out more about that.
I hear you, I wasn't joking when I said it's overwhelming. I'm buying 75% or more of those games without question, I don't know how I'm going to find the time, Persona 5 alone is going to be 100+ hours of my time. This isn't even taking multiplatform titles like RDR2 or Mass Effect into consideration......
It`s been 3+ years and there is only 2 games I want to play on Xbox that aren't on PS4 and 1 is not even out yet.
But hey, I'm glad your happy with your Xbox One.
I was going to list it, but I just wanted to list titled games. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it is out before mid 2018, they have been working on it for a while now and they're pretty efficient developers.
Also, if I was going to list that, I might as well list the next iteration of Bloodborne/Demon Souls. It will be out in this time frame too.
Mobile and/or 3rd party, while continuing on with handhelds.
