Ideally in a perfect world where everyone is transparent with each other, sure we as gamers would meet somewhere in the middle with pubs and devs. The reality is though that these companies only see us as dollar $igns. They'd rips us off without hesitation if they could get away with it. They look out for their bottom line and I'll look out for mine.
