although i respect the time that was put in to this review i have to disagree with it
especially on the parts outlined previously, and several hundred thousand people would also disagree with you on the multiplayer, granted it needs some tweaking but it doesn't rely any more on the luck pipeline than any other online shooter

the thing with the socom problems is the game relies on online play, you do not need multiplayer to play gears
the issues in socom in fact crippled the game, where as gears has slight issues with matchmaking, and a bunch of people whining about weapon balance
gears 2 matchmaking works very well if you have a party and you don't have a router that hates xbox live
gears 1 is a complete mess, and the shotgun was far from good
it was basically a random hand cannon that relied solely on your network connection and not skill
gears 2 weapons are much more balanced except for the shotgun not dropping a chainsaw
overall the multiplayer game of gears 2 is far above the first one, it just has some small fixes that need done

from my experiences with friends more often than not it is their connection, people don't know how to set up their routers for online play, they just buy a crap linksys router from walmart and plug it in and expect it to work
people need to check their internet connections before complaining to epic, on average it takes me about 30 seconds to find a game
in a group that isn't a full part it takes about twice that due to finding teammates
in a full party it is basically instant

probably get a 7 for me, it is a very average game, nothing special aside from the art direction, graphics aren't very good either but it is hidden by the washed out white of the environment
most everyone i know who had wiis have sold them to somebody else because they they never played them, my one friend who still has one wants to sell his but is only keeping it for his girlfriend who plays wii fit maybe once every couple weeks
