@Shinoff They're hit and miss on their skipping. Skipping on VR seems to have been a smart business decision though.
But it's also not just Microsoft, every big player minus Sony has basically skipped on VR.
As for HDMI, the 360 launched during the transition from component to hdmi. Lets not forget HDMI as a spec only came out at the end of 2002. HDMI testing centers didn't even exist in Europe until 2005, and in the year of 2005, only 17m HDM...
I think you just summed it up perfectly. None of the big players are investing in VR. All of those companies are doing no games or small games, with all their big IPs being AWOL on VR.
Take Rockstar for example, they did one mini-game back in 2019 and then dropped VR and never came back. GTA even had a full next-gen upgrade with first person mode, and no VR. Same with RDR2.
"How can MS be making deals with Nintendo when they don't own the product."
You can make conditional/contingent contracts. "We will do X, Y and Z, should A, B and C happen".
Why would a mobile games studio stop making mobile games just because Microsoft has money?
Alpha Dog has always been a mobile studio, and has been making mobile games since 2012.
This is nothing to do with Microsoft owning them.
Oops, somebody didn't read the article.
Alpha Dog is a mobile developer, and this game is for iOS and Android. GamePass is not on either of those platforms.
It'll be a huge disservice to PS gamers if they have the option to keep COD on PS and decide not to do so.
Realistically, those people will just jump to PC or Xbox/Switch if that happens. COD is a guaranteed buy every year for millions of people - so it won't be that big of a deal for COD sales. If anything, it'll hurt Sony more than COD, Sony makes a LOT of money from COD sales and microtransactions.
It would be kind of ironic if after months...
"COD isn't the same how it use to be so this might be the beginning of a downfall"
In what way? None of the data backs that up.
MW2:
- Best selling game of 2022
- Fastest selling COD game ever
- Passed $1bn revenue in 10 days, $800m in the first 72 hours
- Most played game on PlayStation and Xbox
Everything shows it getting bigger, not smaller.
So... one game with a DLC VR mode is going to save VR and make it mainstream? I think not.
And the rest is speculation. No HL Alyx announcement. Sony are still focused on flat games for their big budget AAA franchises. Meanwhile, the rest of the big players in the industry continue to skip on VR for a reason.
Sorry, what? COD can only exist if they sign a marketing deal with Sony?
You do realize COD was huge before that marketing deal... right? Sony wanted a marketing deal BECAUSE COD was huge, not to make COD huge.
Yeah... that ain't happening. VR will never be mainstream or the way the majority play games.
There's a reason why it didn't sell out and why Sony weren't screaming about the pre-order numbers in their earnings.
It's not wanted? COD will sell like hotcakes on Nintendo.
Yeah that would be a non-starter for me, too much of a twitch shooter.
1) If Sony wants to go buy an Activision, e.g. EA or someone of similar size, I'm fine with that.
2) It was an overpayment for sure, over $3bn for one average game IP. But that doesn't mean I'm against it, I supported it from a regulatory standpoint. Acquisitions are fair play.
3) Well, if Activision is not the same as Bungie, then increasing the price in ~40 countries is not the same as doing it in 2-3 🤷
Rest in Peace. That sound is forever etched in my brain.
Correct - I don’t support blanket price increases.
I support acquisitions from both sides. I supported Sony buying Bungie, and I support Microsoft buying Activision.
It's part of the industry.
The game isn't VR only.
Agreed, if it was the 'definitive' way, the game would be VR first. Instead, it is flat screen first and VR is a mode added on after the fact.
Similarly, this game and its original were designed to be 3rd person games first and foremost, so it's hard to consider a VR mode as the definitive way to play.
GamePass is free? Where do I get that?
