They sold through all available stock. You make it sound like there were Series S and X's lying around, unbought in stores like the Xbox One launch.

These are only physical sales. Expect digital to be higher.
@S2Killinit: Yes, but MS did a worldwide launch while Sony did a staggered one. Hence MS had less consoles to go around. Also, we all know Japan is their weakest market. We're in a global pandemic, so the fact that both companies were able to ship out what they did is amazing.
