I think the messaging would still confuse consumers. You still kind of have the "hated" system, so MS probably decide on being cautious and just completely distance itself from it.
Besides, like any change there is a two way street meaning having a hybrid system wasn't enough (benefits to MS) so they scrapped it along to avoid the bad reputation.
Possibility is one thing, good business decision is another.
For some technology to take off, the benefit or experience has to significantly outweigh the cons.
In 3Ds case, the experience was subpar, while the cost was at the time high and the glasses uncomfortable.
Oculus rift though is changing your view of the world significantly and I believe it will take off significantly. It would just take time for the technology to catch up.
Kinect One + Oculus rift = opens up new world!
Xbox One has:
* hdmi in! Do your Xbox stuff like matchmaking, chatting with friends, and watch TV at the same time.
* interactive tv
* instant updates on events such as sports scores and so on while doing other things like playing games or watching netflix
* picture in picture functionality
* smart matchmaking! Yes, MS put tons of resources in matching you with the right people to play games. Who you play with matters!
* and S...
If there is a lot of different opinions, it tends to even out.
It is system of bounds and checks, not to accept extremes where moderators with infinite power exercises their power to further their biased agenda like on n4g.com.
This is intended for the masses to maintain and to let the masses decide what is acceptable and what extreme is not.
I hope MS connects this to facebook, because when you are forced to put a face and identity to it, y...
@dedicatedtogamers:
That is a pretty dumb response!
Let me rephrase it for you:
"Police officers never abuse their power and citizens always behave themselves".
Does that mean we should not have cops?
This is an overall thing intended to improve the online community, just like how MS has a Xbox Live Enforcement team to handle abuse cases and respond to customer needs.
MS is the only...
I agree, and great examples of games designed for Kinect are Kinect Sports and Dance Central.
No other game in the same genre gets as close to those using Kinect is as good. Simply put, they are superior to what is out there.
Some games are just inherently better on Kinect and we just haven't explored that domain enough yet. With Xbox One and Kinect One inclusion in every box, I hope it will be explored a lot more.
Amazing technology jus...
Carmack is talking about the first and original Kinect.
There is very little perceptive latency in the new Kinect One. In fact, it can to some degree detect fingers already.
For decades, the controller pad was no good for FPS, but it evolved and now the pad is preferred by many. During those heydays, people said a controller could never replace the mouse.
Fast forward, and guess what, there are far more people playing FPS on console than PC. ...
Sony could have matched MS at $500 while throwing in a camera, and made a bigger profit.
You can claim Sony is doing it for the good of gamers, and to some a better business decision. However, to me, Sony way under priced the PS4 relative to what the market would have payed.
This will hit Sony's bottom line, and again less investment back into the division. A very profitable division and healthy competition is the way to go.
I don't think MS treated anyone like idiots. They just brought out the message wrong in a topic that many people fear, but very few are affected.
It might have been too soon, but imagine if a similar backlash would have happened when MS released the original (and first) Xbox and people would have complained how they don't have broadband and MS was forced to switch it out with a dial up modem!
We would have been held back for half a decade, and we just...
The difference is that when you overclock at home, your silicon isn't necessary tested for that heat output nor the stress, hence the reduced time.
If you test it properly, then it is no different than shipping a part that is designed for it. That is how they chips anywhere.
Chips that fail the test, gets booted down the hierarchy and sold as a lower spec part.
If you look at MS, then you realise MS innovation is all over the place.
Take a look at what they brought different from the competition:
* smart matchmaking i.e. better matches and doing it in the background
* better reputation system
* multi-tasking and instant switching
* TV features
* lots of Kinect stuff
They almost never talk about the "architecture" or how awesome "GDDR5" is. You know...
John Carmack has been pretty spot on and always had a balanced view.
In the gaming business, Carmack is one of the most respected developers!
Who is upset that Fez II isn't happening?
I'm sure as hell not upset!

I like Cliffy and this was a good piece, despite him siding with blowfish.
For all I care, blowfish can dissappear. He will not be missed by me.
Problem is, maria's got multiple accounts on this site. Some go quite a bit back in time too.
@DragonKnight:
I respect you now due to your somewhat balanded response to maria above, but h0rse choice of console is extremely rational, because his friends in his *opinion* matters more to him than any other feature, game or whatever.
I see nothing wrong with that and there is nothing immature about it. What I do find immature is one projecting how one does their own decision making onto others.
@iamnsuperman:
"Also y...
MS has supported gamers over and over.
Look at what they did with the Xbox 360 and the features and games it brought.
Then take a good look at Nintendo that brought the Wii for strictly casuals. Then look at Wii U, where it's major launch game was Nintendoland. Where are core gamer support?
Sony has released exclusive games, but have you all forgotten the overpriced console, the you should work more to pay more for your console, and how t...
I don't really feel a loss here, but some are fan of Fez.
@GribbleGrunger:
This is the internet. People say sh!t.
I don't condone it, but (blow)fish isn't exactly the innocent guy here.
No, the 24-hour check is to prevent you from illegally keeping the game after you sold, traded, or gifted away your digital games.
How else is MS going to enforce it?
However, I agree that we lost way more than we gained. Physical disc is stone age technology, and we just got held back another half a decade, maybe more!
