The companies really should mostly be blamed, I can agree on that. I do like my consoles jailbroken or hacked so maybe I should give the consoles a break, but as always, the gamer is #1.
I crap on consoles all the time, but I never crap on the gamer themselves. Insulting a machine isn't as bad as insulting a human being.

By finicky I meant the fact that not all external HDDs are supported. There's a dedicated page on Nintendo's website saying what HDDs are supported and what's not. Also, I prefer internal HDDs.
Yes, but doesn't excuse bad design. Plus Isn't external storage a bit finicky on the Wii U? This makes me question how good their Switch solution will be. Their reasoning for not using CDs during the N64 era was pure BS and mainly due to them not being able to make their own solution so I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing is holding external storage that works back.
Not have Wii in its name, so check for that.
