Yes, this article sucks. But reporting it does nothing. The mods don't care. The admins don't care. Being a contributor involves fighting with people - and even then they won't listen to you, and get their friends to approve their stories. It's a thankless job, and we still get flak when it get's approved.

F*** this site, man.

And yet you approved.

It's guys like you and SpaceSquirrel who need your approval rights revoked (seriously, Squirrel approves EVERY flamebait article I can think of).

I thought 3rd Birthday was for PSP. So the demo will be transferrable from PS3 to PSP?

@Cloudberry, Raztad: Oh, okay. Though it seems weird they'd provide footage for those titles that have already been released. Sounds more like a promotional disc to me.

"Infinity Ward Wants Public Feedback"

Make games with:

1. Less linearity
2. More variety
3. Less disjointed story
4. Less cheesy dialog
5. Actual endings
6. Better visuals (getting bored with the same aesthetics)
7. Dedicated servers, dedicated servers, dedicated servers

Also, get with a publisher who knows how to treat it's employees better. That is all (for now).

Uncharted 2? Mass Effect? Call of Cthulhu? Bioshock? Braid? Metal Gear Solid 4?

There are LOTS of games with better story telling and handling of human emotions than Alan Wake.

Edit: Now that I think about it, even the music video for "War" by Poets of the Fall had better story telling than the game Alan Wake. :P

This.

Edit: Also, the author sounds like he's trying to overcomplicate his article with lots of abstract descriptions and metaphors.

Which is why I said "slightly". It relates to the article, but the actual piece is so much more than that. It fits comfortably between "Don't judge a book by it's cover" and "Oh my god, is that true?" :)

But people really should read it. It examines just about every contemporary game based around relationships, and even sticks in some points on real life cases of virtual rape.

Out of curiosity Duke, do you read blogs like...

Slightly misleading title but sets up for a bigger, more in-depth piece.

Well-written stuff - something we usually don't get around here on N4G (peaks over shoulder for more GamesThirst/GoFanboy/MaxConsol e garbage).

But I think they're well beyond the point of caring what you or me or anyone thinks. They don't see gamers when you tell them they sold 5 million units of FFXIII - they see sales figures and profits. And that's all the incentive they need to continue with what they're doing.

You know what they say: Quantity beats quality every day. /s

Seriously, having good coverage over the majority of stories - even if the total number of stories is less - is better than having bad coverage over the majority - with the total number of stories being very high (because we all like to pick us some bones).

That Kinect and 360 are so high on the "console names" and "main announcement" in terms of sheer volume of coverage, is because of a large amount of negative coverage. Which wasn't just confined to reactions towards the device - many stories about Kinect criticized the presentation of it's main conference, along with devoting 2/3rds of the Microsoft conference to Kinect. So while there many be a lot of coverage for it, we can't assume it's all sunshine and ...

You made some good points. But I'd like to disagree (and do it directly rather than hide behind a button). I just think that when you've got that many consumers - and people continuing to buy the console at a faster rate than the PS3 and 360, both systems that are pushing the limits for graphics, gameplay and online play - it's weird that at least 50% of them wouldn't be satisfied. I highly doubt even 10% of the Wii's total consumer base have felt dissatisfied with the con...

Why he can't he check for dupes himselves? The story has been featured twice on the front page in less than a day. The system automatically generates possible dupes when he puts the link. If we put reports of "Old", can't he search N4G or even Google to find if there was indeed a prior story? Unless he's just learning to read, either of those two steps could have worked. You think we like doing all that work?

I just got that from the article. Didn't know it was actually Landon. The satire is still awesome. :)

This pattern has been there since reviewers started handing out 9's and 10's like they were free candy. And I agree that many people seemingly disagree only later on when there's less risk of affecting a game's initial sales.

But I don't think this article fits into that category of complaining about the game's mechanics. It doesn't explicitly talk about the game itself being bad - just one man's opinion of what he feels is off with the story. ...
