Agreed. Gabe Newell and Valve are definitely one of the more influential developers in gaming business today. If not for him and the team at Valve, it probably would have taken much much longer before any one even conceived of giving a story to their first person shooter (or any of the dozens of other innovations Half Life brought about).

I think some sites have begun to realize that unless you follow Destructoid's route for controversial review scores, you won't get "noticed". But that's like the four film makers on Cannibal Holocaust burning down a village, gang raping a girl and impaling her on a pole for the sake of a television ratings and controversy.

They're two different games. Saying if MGS: Rising can go above and beyond Guns of the Patriots or not is like saying if Ninja Gaiden can rise over Demon's Souls - ultimately inconsequential.

If HHG is reporting about it, chances are it won't happen. He miscontrues developer words and overplays anything they tell him. It would be cool if some of the cooler powers became available from the get-go, but given the power two lightsabers gives, I'd say he'll still be fairly weak from the beginning (because clones suck or something). I'm looking forward to seeing what new powers he'll be getting this time around.

All of that is from the game, but I don't think it's real time. More like a teaser of what you can do (albeit in CG). Props to the editor for giving it that sense of urgency and action that was missing from the initially unveiled trailers.
