The 3G will be for a mobile online connection for stuff like messaging or using dedicated apps, I highly doubt that it would be practical to play an online game like Call Of Duty over 3G.
It will require a contract for the 3G, no carriers announced but look at the pricing for 3G laptop dongles to get an idea of how much it will cost.
I'll probably just stick to wifi unless carriers start packaging the PSP2 3G usage in with phone deals.
The rear track pad removes the need for L2 and R2 buttons, sounds pretty good and un-gimmicky to me.

I use mine on the commute to work, on my lunch, on saturday mornings when i cant be arsed getting out of bed, when my wife is watching shit on my 46" HDTV, when im babysitting my nieces at my bro's house.... i could go on.
Obviously i would rather be gaming on my PS3 but for those times when i cant then thats when portable gaming has its place.
Maybe you could argue that MGS3 has a better story than 4 but every other gameplay element is better in MGS4. Its not just the shooting - it has bigger maps, better gadgets, more options for how to get through each area, better online. MGS4 is vastly improved from MGS3.
Angry birds isnt the best example for using what defines a gaming device since it runs on pretty much anything, so i would agree that phones are not true/dedicated/whatever devices - you would not buy a phone with the primary intention of playing games.
I totally agree that there are some great games out there which will run on phones but those games will also run on a DS or PSP, the reverse is not always true.
I dont think pricing is that much of an issue - apple shows this every time they launch a new product. If a product is good enough then it will sell.
The problem wih the PS3 is that it simply wasnt desirable at launch. It had a pretty shitty collection of games available at launch and not much to validate Sony's claims of it being uber powerful - hence it wasnt desirable. (note past tense)

That same LCD also affects PC's internally so its not all the fault of the big bad consoles.
A mere fraction of all PC's in existence will have all the features you mention (4-6gb's ram, 1000-1500mb vram, and 8 threads on a general purpose CPU).
PC's are just as bad to each other as consoles are bad to PC's.

It was a good game but it was dissapointing because what finally shipped didnt have a lot of the features they had been hyping through its lengthy development.

I'd argue that the final reason for Mr "X" to buy console "Y" wasnt game "Z" released 4 years ago.

I would say its better because it built around an online community infrastructure with enough power under the hood to make better games for the community who embrace it.
Take the 3D out of the 3DS and there is nothing that it can do that the NGP cant. The same cannot be said of the reverse.
Of course at this point its all just speculation but MGS4 running on the NGP pisses all over the calibre of stuff we have seen on the 3DS.
