If they can't upscale or improve the graphics with the PS2 chipset, how are they going to do it without it? I guess it's possible, but I dobut the PS3 is powerful enough with it's stripped down cell processor. And DJ, if you don't even own a PS3 yet, how can you go on defending it as if it's your child. The way you attack the 360, I'll assume you don't one one of those either. For a guy that doesn't own either next gen system, you sure have a lot to say about them.
Arkham, the top of the line PC's today with the best graphics cards and tons of memory have a hard time of emulating the PS2. The PS3 has a stripped down version of the Cell, last years graphics tech, and only 512mb of RAM. Performance wise it doesn't come close to last years PC's. I'm sure Sony knows the ins and outs of the PS2 much better than the programers of the PC PS2 emulator so their emulator will be much better, but it won't be better than having the actual PS2 chip. You're either kidding or completely ignorant. Software emulation is never better than native hardware. If the PS3 can't upscale PS2 games with the PS2 chip, it certanly won't do it without it.
Assuming Sony changed their production line to exclude the PS2 chip, I'm assuming new batches of the North American and Japanese PS3's will also be hobbled. I've never owned the PS2 so there are a few games I would have liked to play like Okami, but with this news, it'll be a long long time before I buy a PS3 now. the waiting for the 360 version was a joke. Obviously the 360 has an uphill climb in Japan. I've lived there for over 2 years and know that Japanese are notoriously biased towards Japanese products. With the exception of European cars, any product not Japanese is inferior to them. I think the 360 is doing better than a lot of people thought.

Sound and Vision is a home theater magazine, not a gaming magazine. The author specifically states that he's not a gamer and comments he make like "the PS3 is currently the only gaming platform that offers the ability to game in full 1080p resolution" bear this out. To have two price cuts (first one prior to launch) in the first two months of a systems life is unprecedented. Simple fact is this is a desperate move to sell more products, because the PS3 isn't selling in what they thought was a solid market. But Sony thinks it can offset the extra loss by passing the cost of the cuts on to the Australian and European markets.

Could this mean they're working on a port of FFXIII for the 360. I've heard developers were having a hard time with the unreal engine on the PS3, and having built their own engine for the PS3 I can't see why they would buy it to develop for the PS3. FFXIII isn't coming out on the PS3 until 2008 so that'll give them plenty of time to work on the 360 version. Would be a huge blow to Sony if it were true.
Calm down deepbrown. No matter how much you cry, scream and yell, the fact is that the Cell in the PS3 is not the same as the one's in the IBM servers. It's a stripped down version to keep the price down. Sames as the 360's processor is a stripped down version of the Intel processor. Keep telling youself whatever you want to believe and maybe in your fantasy land it'll come true. 80% backward compatability? Probably only a handful of games. That's why Sony is down playing BC now.
