You are grossly underestimating marketing, servers, employees, etc...
Mix in game pass deals and it gets way higher.
For example netflix turns 5B profit on 30B revenue. You are trying to sit here with a straight face and tell me MS is on a 30% profit margin with GP already?
Last year they didn't even report profit or margins an gaming separately, I was mixed in with the following

They are paying the salar for 23 studios to operatate. Its poinless to speculate. Wait for the annual report. The overall gaming number is what is important here. But the expenses for a studio, plus marketing is not cheap.
Because when you are taking out a loan they can get to that number using your credit report and evaluating your expenses. Jesus Christ. This isn't that hard people.
Me too. But they have to have the numbers seeing how many of these have been warrantied and they still haven't done anything about it. These are issues dating back to version 1. It unacceptable these are still issues on a premium product.
What happens to your physical games if they pull the patches offline? You are tricking yourself if you think those discs contain good versions of the game.

Pretty sure it's up to the consumer to decide what they prefer. As an owner of an 8K 85 inch, I will take the extra pixels. 4k = 8,294,400 pixels 8k = 33,177,600
8K is 24,883,200 more pixels. If I can get that at 8k 60 I will take it at 85 inches.
I use my 240hz super ultrawide for frame rate. So I can do both depending on how I am feeling.

Which is completely fine. There are thousands of developers making games. For some devs it will make sense for some it won't. Gamers love to argue in absolutes. But business isn't one size fits all. They all have different operating models, expenses, funding. Every third party game that goes on there will demand a lump sum and some sort of royalties from MS. This is no different. I don't know why this type of shit is even news any more.
I've played it and payed for it several times already. But go ahead and keep paying full price for remade old ideas.
I know I am in the minority here. But I don't mind a launcher if it's from a company that owns an ecosystem. For me those three would be Microsoft, Steam, and Sony. If I can have a bespoke experience for my console ecosystems on PC and well as steam, then I am all in. What I don't need is seperate launchers for rockstar, EA, ubisoft, gog, epic, etc....
