Geez, at least let them do a system redesign to cut costs before you write it off. Watch as it recovers decently this holiday and next year to have respectable, though not Wii level, sales.
Guys, they probably do mean ads in the PS4 menus like XBL. How on earth would they make money by SPENDING money on advertising for hardware that they sell AT A LOSS?
So long as it is withing reason I'm fine with a few ads. It is just too big of a revenue stream to ignore folks. Look at that no MP3 playback and Sony Unlimited Music BS. Of course that's an intetional decision by Sony to make more money. Just because they're our white knight saving us from Microsoft&...
@Mognetman.
Ok? Is that suppose to prove something? Clearly Nintendo knows that and doesn't care. They seem fine with funding niche games and they clearly can control their game budgets to have realistic expectations.
If funding Monolith's X, funding and publishing Wonderful 101 and Bayo 2 isn't catering to the hardcore market I don't know what is.
Well duh of course its still negatively effecting them. They had to write off a large sum of money due to the price cut and still came out with a small profit due to 3DS. I firmly believe they'll likely have a Wii U redesign that cuts costs on the console AND the game pad in 2014 to reduce price further and increase profits.
One game, Wind Waker HD, sold 3 times as many consoles as before just last month so it finally is starting to get games thankfully
It pertains to Microsoft's continued habit of bad marketing of their new Xbox console despite having been very good at marketing in the past and factors into the "next gen" console wars so yes, I'd say it easily does.
@amnalehu
You literally linked to an IGN article that shows Minecraft in a column that reads "confirmed day one". You really should have read that first. It isn't even listed in the separate "launch window" category.
Uh, Sony said PS4 launch at Gamescom.
The user above you literally quoted the article where they mention how Sony said at Gamescom that Minecraft would be a PS4 launch title.
Yea, Nintendo needs to be throwing hundreds of millions at marketing right now
Nintendo has a "bottomless pit of capital" for what they do with $8 billion cash. In terms of what they do, only making software with cheaper budgets (highest costing Ninty games like $20-$30 million) and making hardware that's a lot of extra money they've got on their hands. I can imagine how badly those movies would be under Disney's direction too.
The truth is the PS3 will still be a console that is a solid purchase, even better than Xbox One and PS4 (Even 360 is a better purchase than both those atm) due to a bigger library of games that you can't even play on next-gen devices (yet and how Sony prices streaming PS3 games remains to be seen)
A PS3 purchase today with Plus will get you an endless supply of games and remember that Dying Light, Metal Gear Solid 5, Destiny, and others are still coming to the PS3. Not t...
Wow. Someone disagreed with you simply being excited to get a game that you're looking forward to.
Yes, yes they both could. I personally see this gen playing out like PS2/CUBE/XBOX where one runs away with the lead (But not 150 million units) while the other two trail behind. People are in for a rude awakening of sub-100k sales for both next gen consoles come January.
I don't think Wii U's online is all that much worse than the other two. Games are generally stable, there are virtually no downtimes and it offers unique experiences (Miiverse)
I don't know what Nintendo needs to do to get rid of this idea that they have bad online. I think if they got rid of Mii's maybe that would help? People just keep thinking its inferior. (It is but not as much as ppl would think)
I think maybe the secret is Nintnedo comi...
Well they have Watch Dogs and that UbiArt RPG coming to Wii U in 2014 so,....
Not to mention the fact that they'll at least put Just Dance on it every year and Nintendo has shipped two Ubisoft games with the system already.
Lol, someone disagrees with a platform having healthier though still modest sales?
Yes but every console starts hot out of the gate. Wii U grabbed 1 million in its first two months and was sold out for a while. Things change. Vita too. I'm not saying, by any means, that Xbox One or PS4 will fail or sell all that badly. I just would be prepared for sub-100k sales in America from January-August 2014 because the facts are that both consoles have clear dry spell of software in the early months of the year. There's like InFamous for PS4 in Feb, then Destiny/TitanFall/Wat...
They didn't give 3DS as an option, fail. We all know its most likely for iOS or 3DS. Maybe Vita as a long shot. Square Enix isn't going to spend $50 million (we all know they can't control a budget) on developing a single DQ for Japan and they won't release it in the west unless Nintendo helps, which they don't seem interesting in doing so right now.
