Well let's look at precedent here. Microsoft sold 8 million units in the first year of the 360 without any competition. So now that they have launch competition that are not only predicting more than 10 million but ten(s) of millions? Microsoft and their typical hyperbole. I honestly don't think either of them have a chance of breaking 20 million in the first year. What was the Wii's first year sales? Like 12 or 15 million I think?
I read that linked ARSTechnica article and Panello claims that the genesis for an all digital model stems from not having to get up and change discs during a "take home kinect testing".
Is it just me or is this statement bleeding with irony?
So they were product testing a device that is supposed to encourage the player to physically get up and be active while playing a game yet they deemed the practice of swapping discs to be to much effort?
@TrueNinja Sony overpriced the PS3? Hmm thats news to me considering they were losing close to $200 on every single console sold. They took a loss on every system sold so that we gamers could benefit from the best physical medium to ever come to gaming..

I agree they don't market very heavily but like isarai said Sony IP's sell very well generally and since they don't spend much on adverts the games break into profits much faster.. Halo 3 for example between development and advertising cost something like 70 million dollars. Thats a huge hole to climb out of before you can make a profit. "Xbox live is better and nicer to use." Thats pure opinion not fact, I have both a 360 and PS3 and im a big fan of PSN. Live overall is a little more seamless but not enough that it can be declared outright as being better.. For being completely free PSN was fantastic and runs great. My only gripe with PSN is slower downloads on some stuff and you can't do anything while it installs contents.. But in terms of playing games online it's near flawless.

@unholyone I'm suspecting you haven't used or have barely used PSN.. Aside from some obscure or minor social features(x game chat) PSN and Xbox live are identical.. PSN runs great and in the case of first party online games have dedicated servers..

@trance No problem, a lot of consumers are unaware that the Xbox's are manufactured in China despite Microsoft being a major US corporation. But it's far cheaper to make production facilities and pay for the labor to manufacture in China then ship them over on a cargo ship..

@Godmars and Angelicice You are forgetting that both consoles were on featured on Jimmy fallon and Microsoft's controversial policies were called out. Yes they have since been reversed but things like that will resonate for a long time amongst the more casual consumer out their. I've also been seeing a lot of articles on non gaming news feeds. Microsoft is clearly in an uphill battle on this one.
