I don't really care about popularity whether now or in the long run. I'm going with the best games/value which again this gen seems to be Playstation.
IMO Playstation has been the best console 3 gens running now in terms of game and value and it looks like PS4 may be the best Playstation yet.
I say this from a perspective of owning at least two consoles the last 3 generations too in case of any accusations of bias.
Power and price.
Most of my favourite games are multiplats but the exlusives provide an incentive as well.

They should really use this opportunity to revolutionize Killzones gameplay, not just the graphics.
They should look to games like Far Cry 3 for inspiration.
Wel PS3 still sold more than 360 and will likely sell around 90 million consoles before it's done.
Not to mention what's most important, single console gamers who purchased PS3 successfully picked the right console. My 360 hasn't been in 6 months, MS abandoned the old xbox again.
Even on the eve of next-gen it's releasing some of the best games ever created exclusive to the system.

There no question Plus is a far better value than Live has ever been.
Next-gen all Lives superiority (faster, more functional) will vanish and it will only be a pay wall to things you've already paid for or get free everywhere else.
Even if true, I'd take Killzone, Infamous, GOW, Uncharted, Last of US, and GT over Halo Froza, and Titanfall every time.
Titanfall probably would fall flat against BF4 for my competitive FPS tastes anyways.

BF4 is CODs biggest competition imo. Titan Fall may become like Gears but has no chance dethroning COD as an exclusive. Won't even dethrone Halo.

The guns in Killzone 3 were surprisingly enjoyable. Very visceral feeling when firing.
AC and COD are among my least favourite mulitplats.
I do enjoy many exclusives but I think 90% of the best games are multiplat.
A large number of quality exclusives like what Sony has done is a great example of a company standing behind and supporting their user base. No PS3 owner ever experienced a major drought this gen. The same can't be said about 360 owners. I know because I own both since their respective launches.
