It adds a hell of a lot more than $50 of value to the final product and is a huge boost to the Blu-Ray association (of which Sony is a member) and movie studios (who like Blu-Ray's anti-piracy feature and can't wait for DVD to die).

To remove an enormously valuable "value-add" feature would be utterly stupid when all Sony get's in return is the ability to cut a relatively meaningless $50 off the price. Why would Sony do it when $50 is not a significant price-cut? As...

it is. Gears has been exposed. It's flashy and eye catching but in the way of shiny black 87 Firebird Trans Am at a used car lot with the same el cheapo "shinola" sprayed all over the steering wheel, dash board, and tires as well as that extra bit of new car smell spray to cover up the stale cigarette smell. That's the UE3 engine for you.

Then again Gears 2 is not the most technically advanced game on the 360.

He said the PowerPC cores are fairly equal. The Cell chip has been shown (by IBM) to massively outperform the Xenon chip.

This article is meant to create controversy and confusion. How did it make it to N4G?

Shippy was talking strictly about the PowerPC unit's as being "about equal."

It is absolutely true that the PowerPC chip on the Cell is virtually identical to the units used in the Xbox360 CPU. In fact, the three processors that make up the 360's Xenon are based on the Cell's PowerPC based PPE! There was a recent article that drew attention to this.

However, just because the PowerPC units in each chip are nearly identical does not mean that the Cell a...

between Solid Snake and Liquid Ocelot this looks like an N64 game. I'm sure they made a genuine effort but their engine is simply not in the same class as Kojima's.

Independent tests have show that Live is the slowest of all the online services. It also has far more problems with lag on multiplayer games than PSN.

And it costs $50 a year more than the competition.

they have a lot of work to do. Dirt was nowhere near the best looking game on the 360, let alone the PS3.

Based on the content of the link this game looks like any other run of the mill military fps in terms of graphics. Absolutely nothing impressive whatsoever.

Crysis wipes the floor with this.

One is quiet, reliable, has better graphics, is an incredible media center, allows you to browse the web when you want a break from gaming, is the best blu-ray player on the planet, has built in wifi, and is basically the best in the market at everything it does. Best gaming performance, best blu-ray performance, best multimedia center.

The other is noisy, unreliable and cheap, atleast until you want to play online against others, download a demo, or use any online capability ...

that these are in-game graphics and not CGI.

Even when they talked about how MGS4 looked good they showed a tiny shot of a bland setting with a simple nearly overhead camera angle but for Gears they showed a full-screen clip with a dynamic camera angle.

These things might seem small to you but anyone who's been in marketing can tell you that these are not accidental.

Still, Cnet has never really determined market winners. They always backed Pioneer Plasma's using ridiculously unrealisitic "tests&quo...

This is obviously a terribly unoptimized engine on perhaps the easiest to optimize platform on the planet. Really poor effort.

Rubbish premise. Choices are utterly random and unsubstantiated and not based on a consistently applied set of criteria.

6255d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

The article is utter rubbish but miraculously the premise is correct. The reality is that the 360's performance is pretty much tapped out. The benefit of using a straightforward and familiar architecture is that developers can quickly max out it's performance. The few challenges with 360 development were overcome within the first year. The two big ones were tiling (compare PGR3 and PGR4) and using all three CPU cores without causing horrendous cache misses due to tiny 1MB cache. That's a...

is not the complaint about controls. That's a matter of personal preference and clearly this reviewer prefers a more arcadey feel. No problem.

The problem is that the scores for sound and visuals are misrepresentative in the context of previous reviews. This ought to be a source of embarrassment. Killzone 2 has easily the best audio-visual fidelity of any available game except, in some ways, Crysis on PC.

Decent OS, genuinely ugly phone.

It's astonishing how a company as large and profitable as Microsoft has never produced a single OS that's genuinely intuitive, user friendly, and attractive.

With lots of perfectly good Windows Mobile launchers available on Handango.com for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 Microsoft should have simply "assimilated" one of those companies and called it a day.

This will cost them a lot of money but having those stores out there is their one big chance to control the discussion.

You'll see PCs, 360's, Zune's, operating systems and all kinds of other outdated concepts "seamlessly" linked together.

More than anything else, this is a sign that Microsoft's hold on hardware companies is failing. Why? Because they're fighting different battles on too many fronts in a slipshod, uncoordinated manner. If they had a ...

The Wii is easily the best gaming platform for most consumers. It is easy to use and does not require superhuman thumb control, the ability to press complicated button combinations, or to memorize complicated control schemes. It's also very reliable and has important features like wifi built in.

It's the iphone of game consoles. Simple, intuitive, and fun. That's also why it's outselling the PS3 and 360 combined.

Now, between the PS3 and 360, the PS3 hardware...
