We actually still don't know the final performance of the CPU side yet on the PS4. Rumor pegs it at 1.6GHz before, but the recent rumors says it can be as high as 2GHZ. But right now on their spec sheet lists 1.86TFl...
Yeah, there's pretty much no more excuse why they cant do higher res textures or put a good amount of Anti-Aliasing on all their games now.
The PS3's cell processor was theoretically able to do 230GFlops.
The PS4 is supposed to do 1.86TFlops.
That's about a 8 times more theoretical performance.
As for RAM, PS3 has 256MB 25.6 GB/s main memory, 256MB GDDR3 22.4 GB/s graphics memory.
PS4 has 8GB GDDR5 176 GB/s. That's 16 times the amount of total memory and 8 times the speed of the PS3's VRAM.
So it's safe to say PS4 is 8X more...

An analogy is the iPhone 4 vs a HTC EVO 4G.
Even though the iPhone 4 ran at 800MHz and the EVO 4G ran at 1GHz, the iPhone 4 was faster in all benchmarks. The reason is because Apple has optimized iOS for their hardware each generational step forward, while the EVO 4G was still running on Android 2.2 and since it is a much more open OS, it just wasn't as OPTIMIZED to that specific set of hardware.

The official spec sheet is there, but still not finalized. It would be nice if somehow they ended up getting an 8000 series GPU instead of the rumored 7000.
So my feeble brain comprehended that it is rumored to have 8 ACEs.
As reference, A radeon 7970 and 7870 has 2 ACEs.
Not necessarily raw compute power, but more parallelism?

I have to agree with the consensus that Microsoft is a "necessary evil" in the console world. Although I'm sure they really are only after the $, but what company isn't. Sony, Nintendo, etc. are all businesses too. But I think we have to give credit to Microsoft because they did help knock some sense into Sony. Who knows, if the PS3 ruled the roost, they might have not had the push to deliver the games or features we wanted this past generation.

In any case, I'm a PC gamer. I love the frame rates, resolution, and pure raw power my i7 2600k and GTX 680.
But there's one problem, most of MY favorite games were on the PS3. Even if I dropped $5,000 on a PC, I still won't be able to play Uncharted, GT, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, God of War, Killzone, MGS4, Infamous etc. Again, those are MY favor...

At this point that seems to be the case. Sony is currently 1 step ahead so far. But we'll see how things really are when Microsoft decides to unveil their console.

People need to stop hating on Crysis 3. I recently just beat it and the graphics are pretty amazing.
The grass, the details, the fluidity of the water, the textures, the lighting. Everything comes together nicely.
It is what Crysis 2 should have been.
My only gripe is the short campaign.
