I think their approach with the VITA is to cater with the Western audience based on the software. I always knew that the vita would not outsell the 3DS in Japan seeing that they have big software launches their.

I believe that he made that comment because he can't backtrack on their investment on the cell. Seeing what he did for the vita by just choosing relatively common components that they finally realize what is more important.

Seeing the big news today that Sony suffering big losses stem fromtheir TV's And mobile division BUT one of thier their most profitable venture is the Playstation division for this fiscal year. It isstupid to drop the brand recognition of such product.
I like the part regarding next-gen. Superior graphics is not enough. Integration of an entertainment system in a console might be the next step.
This can bee seen on how MS is establishing connectivity to xbox with their desktop and mobile division along with their kinect project.
Sony can also do this but needs a partner such as google for software. (They make great hardware but software is meh)
