That's a wild assumption to make.
Xbox live usage is up 52% year over year since the S launched.
The S is likely working for some as an upgrade, but for most as an low cost entry point.
You probably don't have any UHD movies in part because you don't have a UHD player.
I guaruntee xb1s will encourange many users to buy UHDs. A Pro w/ UHD drive would have done the same.
Stop saying a UHD drive would have made the pro $100 more expensive. It doesn't cost a manufacturer that near that much to include this drive. Industry average is $17, and it would probably cost Sony less because they make the drives. If they though it was worth it, they could have easily eaten that and still charged $400.
UHD drive would have added about $17 to manufacturing costs. It certainly wouldn't have bumped the price up by $100.
That said, I'm sure Sony figured the added cost wasn't worth it based on their experience with their DVD player business. Since everyone is streaming they are saving money on a feature that few would have used.
Looks badass!
That's not what people are complaining about.
People who pre-ordered are complaining because people who didn't pre-order can now get the content.
@Ju just about every VR sdk is compatible with Win10, which is kernal Scorpio will run on. MS controls the SDK and can whitelist 3rd party HMD hardware for the console... they'd also be responsible for what calls the Xbox SDK will respond to. They can control that aspect of the standard all they want, and still support 3rd party HMDs.
@Ju
Or they'll all and existing API on their platform and support it with their own tech... which is exactly what they are doing btw.
How are they screwing developers? Developers have plenty of VR sdks to support (oculus, vive, psvr, open VR, etc), and Scorpio will likely support at least one of the existing options.
They aren't stopping developers in anyway.
It looks to me like the person who runs their Twitter is just joking around...
Yeah, if you pretend that the Nintendo Wii didn't exist.
There were over 100million of those sold. You think the Xbox One and PS4 are going to make up for that contraction in the market? You are out of your mind.
Many of the people who bought console last gen aren't playing their games on consoles this cycle. It's a fact.
So instead of trying to grow the market by attracting new customers, like the Wii did, they are trying ...
I think Sony (and MS) are realizing that the console market isn't growing, and so they are making efforts to reenguage existing customers.
The more money a customer spends on new PS hardware, the less likely they are to spend their money on a rival platform.
Orange box!?!?!? I been holding onto the disk, thinking the day would never come!
@showanw
That's why I said "if polled correctly"
If they have data on what levels of access console gamers typically have, and the sample is proportional to that, the poll is sound.
Statisticians generally consider 1000 respondents to be a statistically reliable survey.
If polled properly, 2000 people is way more than enough to get an accurate survey with a small margin of error.
This is actually a smaller percentage than what I expected. At the start of the gen I think Digital was accounting for around 20% of sales. Now I'm reading that EA is seeing 30%.... By 2018 it could be 40% or beyond.
Once it gets to 40% publisher revenues from digital purchases will exceed the revenues from physical thanks to the ability to cut out the middle man.
Because it's cheaper?
Maybe the Pro will change things, but cost has, statistically, always been the most important factor.
Destructiod classifies an 8.5 as "Great".
I think this game is great and ground breaking, and probably THE killer app for PSVR. That doesn't mean it is flawless though. Imagine a RIGS2 (or even this game with updates) will be more fleshed out and more deserving of even higher scores.
I think 343 cares about halo, and I enjoy H5 (hated 4 though), but I wish they would have taken more time to show they understand the franchise before making drastic changes.
Yeah, we are very happy that our budding IP has lost popularity despite getting better as a game and releasing on more platforms.
