If xb1 didn't have kinect, I probably would have gotten a PS4 last night, Because chances are the two consoles would have been identical, with the only differentiating factor being in house studios. All we'd have to look forward to is prettier graphics. I'm drawn to technical innovation, and I think kinect 2.0 can differentiate gameplay in positive ways. I like what how it's being used in BF4, in D4, in Forza, and in project spark. the added immersion from head tracking is mor...
No one is MAKING anyone do anything.
I really think this issue is overstated, especially now that one account covers the entire household. The typical xbox user doesn't even notice the paywall because they subscribe to Live for the online gaming anyway.
No doubt the free games on PSN add amazing value, but I have NEVER felt like I haven't gotten my money's worth with Xbox live. I've been a member since it's inception, and there's no doubt that my money has gone towards something that has pushed the entire industry forward. For that, I don't think MS needs to offer loads of handouts to remain competitive with Sony. I'd hate for this to become a race to the bottom... Making each service into loss leaders. This would...
I think you need to consider the fact that many people don't view those f2p, indie, and digital games as a reasons to own next gen console, considering they are mostly last gen ports with minimal, if any, upgrades.
Also, those games that look like stinkers to you, seem to be getting decent feedback from those who have gotten hands on time.
I think people care about framerate, but from what I've seen DR3 doesn't look unplayable. I've seen plenty of videos where their was absolute mayhem going on and the game soldiers on fine. If a game is fun, folks in general will ignore a hiccup every now and then.
At launch it seems folks just have compromises to make. The choice between a fun game with performance issues, and a gorgeous, but generally boring game, will come down to preference...
I'd say the ps4 is light on must have exclusives AT LAUNCH. Resogun, the undisputed champ of the lineup (and *free!), isn't the type of game you think of as a system seller. Luckily, the 3rd party lineup is pretty steller, and the resolution whores will be satisfied with there performance.
So there's no gloom or doom here. There are good games to be had, and there are more to come.
It was obviously staged, but clearly the UI designers changed the gestures... Nothing criminal about that.
Outside of game informer, the press has been mostly positive. Not sure if you've been actually following the game...
No, but Sony's and Microsofts consoles don't have the misfortune of being confused with last gen tech.
Except... It will have multiplayer at launch.
It won't have the custom map editor at launch.
This is impressive. I wonder how much of it is smoke and mirrors though. After a 30 seconds you get to an unskippable splash screen (it continues to load). A little later your in the menus (still loading). Now there's a long unskippable cutscene (still loading)...catch my drift? I'm gonna be skeptical until I see it myself. But regardless of how they've achieved this, it's an improvement on the user experience.
IMO the ps4 looks like a toy, and the xb1 looks like a part of any entertainment system...
1: what's is an "acceptable" length for a linear brawler? hell, the only launch games with significantly longer campaigns are open world.
2: the games length has nothing to do with the size of the disk.
3: it doesn't only have a single player
=/ 8 hrs - 10 hrs is the standard for linear games. and i'm sure someone who wants 100% completion will be in that range easily.
I'm like you, i want more out...
Nah , I'm sure it was rushed games that lead to the scores, not rushed reviewers... They had 2 days to play a 10 hr game... How much time does it take to tell if its good or not?
No, Microsoft should have removed the street date on xb1 games...
Nintendo can't beat Sony and MS... At least not with the wii u, that ship has sales. As a 'next gen' console, it doesn't even compete well with the ps3. Sure it may be SLIGHTLY more powerful, but there is so much more value to be had with the ps3 given its software line up and online features.
Can ninty salvage this generation? Maybe... But they won't be beating anyone.
I don't think it's about having a short sided mine set. It's just a different approach to extracting value. Anyone who buy a console at lauch is buying it because they want immediate satisfaction.
If you feel like you won't be satisfied with a product until a couple years down the line, then why buy it on day one? Buy it when that satisfaction is guaranteed. Chances are, it will be cheaper at that time as well.
That's my strategy in buying...
I HOPE you are right, but I believe I've heard of more than 5 unique cases.
I hear you, I just don't think there are that many people casually buying consoles at launch. By the time they get involved, the consoles are much cheaper, and they likely have other ways to access these services (smart tv's, rocky etc) And given the fact that these paywalls have existed since Xbox 360 and MS has been a leader in this space since xbox1, I think MS rightfully understands that their customers generally come for online play. People aren't buying these consoles to st...
