The reviewer basically thinks the difficulty is unfair. He thinks that Demon's Souls achieved the right balance but Dark Souls is just too aggressive, putting the player in situations they have no possible chance to survive.

I'm loving Dark Souls but there is a few issues with the controls. A few times I've been in a fight, shield up, stepped back and then went to attack only for my character to lower his shield and stand there while I'm hitting R1. Can about a secondm but that second is crucial.

I think Namco have published Dark Souls so they could release it world wide. Atlus wouldn't be able to publish the game in Europe and after Demon's Souls went through a few different ones (Namco did the Demon's Souls release in Europe) they handled Dark Souls.
The online works fine, but because there are so many different servers and you go in a random one each time you log in, I can see how it can be frustrating if you wanna play with friends.

I think the show going one more season is for the best. Gilligans view is he'd rather go out on a high then drag out like when he worked on The X-Files.
Season 5 is going to be 16 episodes though but we'll see if the quality can remain like it has these past 4 seasons. And some fans are already complaining about that.

It's a tough debate with computer games since immersion and interaction can be key roles to the story and world you're taking part in. The writer here uses SotC as a perfect example of this.
I'm also seeing a lot of MGS shout outs here. At risk of being flamed to death, MGS is a good story but certainly not the best, let down by long, long bouts of unnessacary dialogue and is far too convoluted in later games. A complex and long story doesn't necessarily mean ...

I agreed with most of what you said. Yeah the reviewer has played much more than us and yes 7 is a fine, respectable score for a game.
I just disageed because I think Jim Sterling is a pretentious prick.
Oh yeah, all the reviewers calling it a cheap cash in and a clone and all the low scores that have flooded in cause of the gamebreaking bugs. Oh wait, I haven't read a single review yet that absolutely hated this game.

He did really go the technical side of things. His biggest issues seem to be 'unexplained elements' where pretty much everything is for the players to discover and share amongst themselves.
And of course, bugs. Demon's Souls had a few bugs and many bosses has exploits and he seemed to have a go at the enemy AI as well (in that you can pull, run away, wait till they turn and return to their spot).

Yeah, it's suppose to be a lonely, quiet experience. Do you, for example, want to be talking to friends over the mic and miss the sounds of a trap being set into motion and you obliviously walk forward and die? Of course not. This is a very 'turn the lights of and concentrate' kinda game, where your head needs to completely involved.

I think Eurogamer give very fair and resonable scores. Actually reading their reviews (which one persons opinion btw) shows how they came to that conclusion.
Problem is people seem to think anything lower than an 8 is a bad score.
Very nice article. Non of my gaming friends seem to have any interest in this game or Dark Souls, no matter how amazing I tell them it is. They're all either playing Gears 3 or waiting on B3 and CoD. Shame really because Demon's/Dark Souls are unique. Should be mandatory for every gamer to try it for an hour.
Ah thats where I'm struggling. I have no poison resistance ring, nor a fire one for the chaos witch boss. Will try and beat her though, I have the shield with fire reistance.
