Honestly, this is a pretty stupid stance to have. HD ports don't take a lot of time or effort (and sometimes studios are even contracted to do it ala Bluepoint) when all things are considered. At the start of every generation it takes time for games to start steadily rolling in, and things like F2P games, indies, and HD ports are just more options for people until the games become more steady. How is that a bad thing?

Awakening from Final Fantasy VI. Literally perfect.

"How can kids and families shrink lol. Wtf really?"

More and more kids today are playing games on tablets and phones, plus when they grow up they are also moving on to other platforms (PC, Microsoft, and Sony). I'm not trying to spell doom for Nintendo! Haha, but it is a pretty easy thing to see. Gamers in the 18-35 are going to be playing PC, Microsoft or Sony games. That's just a given. These gamers, generally speaking, don't go anywhere other than mig...

It seems like the majority of people, both defenders of Nintendo's E3 plans and detractors, seem to be pretty myopic on this topic. It makes it really hard to discuss unfortunately.

Nintendo not doing a traditional live press conference and allowing that press conference to be streamed by anybody who can pull it off (Spike TV, GameTrailers, IGN, GameSpot, Ustream, etc.) means less exposure. How much less I have no idea. But it simply cannot be argued that Nintendo isn'...

This is just a new model of the Wii U or maybe the 3DS.

The type of people Nintendo are communicating with are the type of people who are already invested in their ecosystem. And as we see with the Wii U, it is sadly just not enough of a core to be sustainable.

Let me give an admittedly circumstantial example from last year:

When deciding where to watch E3 last year, I decided to watch Spike TV so my friend (who doesn't follow gaming much) could comfortably watch with me. We watched Microsoft's event, then...

I don't see how the Oscars et al are more friendly to the public. Just like E3 the only people at these events, generally speaking, are people from the industry itself.

You say Nintendo will reach more mainstream people, and I just gotta wonder how you came to that conclusion. The same sites you mentioned (Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, etc.) will have just as much coverage of the Sony and Microsoft conferences as Nintendo. Again, the biggest difference is in the mainstream m...

Somehow I think saying you can reach max level in a few hours is an exaggeration. Ten-twelve hours, maybe. But 3-4? Seriously doubt it. Could be wrong though.

Pretty lofty goals. Sounds really cool, but an ambitious game from a developer I've never heard of tempers my excitement. Still, I look forward to hearing more about this game.

There is a certain placid nature to a video presentation versus a live one. Think about when you have, presumably, watched some award show. Be it the Oscars, the Grammy's, the Emmy's, whatever, there is a certain electricity with the uncertain nature of show. That is underscored whenever they cut to a video of somebody accepting an award - it just feels, disconnected.

As somebody who is going to be watching through livestreams/TV coverage, it's not drastically dif...

There are a lot of points to address, but I'll try stick to three major ones.

Like I said, E3 is about exposure through mainstream media outlets. As big as IGN, GameSpot and GameTrailers are, they aren't "mainstream." They are still fairly dedicated and core gamer centric sites. It's the publications that don't generally cover games like Forbes (too a degree), newspapers like The New York Times, TV outlets like CNN, etc. that attend E3 and report to ...

E3 is about exposure. Mainstream media attention. To us gamers, it doesn't really matter how we get the info (though most would admit the flashy, widely shown press events are more exciting); but it's incorrect to assert there is no meaningful impact to be gained by doing a "traditional" press event versus an Nintendo Direct E3 edition.

In my opinion Nintendo is being too cute for their own good here. It doesn't help get the word out about the Wii U to t...

E3 is about exposure. The more exposure (the positive kind, Microsoft) the more of an impact it will have for the publisher. As a gamer, it's easy to say all the hype doesn't matter and it's all about the games; but without a "traditional" press conference, it is going to be really difficult to get meaningful exposure - especially considering the Wii U is flopping tremendously for Nintendo.

Don't get me wrong, the Smash Bros. tournament is an awesome...

This could go either way. I'll give an example: Activison owns Beenox, a studio that has made four Spider-Man games. The first game, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, is actually a pretty great and under-rated game that not only had tons of comic book style, but also featured a who's who of Spidey's rogue's gallery. Conversely, their last effort (The Amazing Spider-Man) while not a bad game was so basic and uninspired. It didn't have any decent villains, an impactful story...

One thing I hope they do is allow those who pre-order the game to customize their character and reserve a name (if you even get a name) the way many MMO's allow pre-launch. Would be convenient. I highly doubt this would be happen, but it would be cool.

On a different note, I really hope Bungie does what Gearbox did with Borderlands 2 and releases a character skill tree creator. Aside from the revenue/publicity, it would be great to plan your character out. Whenever I firs...

I haven't played enough to render any kind of judgement on the overall game, but man is this game pretty. I wish I had the deluxe edition because of the Amano poster - in fact if I really like the game I might double dip for the deluxe anyways.

I'm in the US, and it normally doesn't update for at least 6 more hours (sometimes longer). Despite that, about an hour ago I purchased the game off the webstore and I've downloaded and installed the game. So you might be able to get it now through the webstore.

"MS have an advantage cause they can afford more 1st party developers than Sony"

Sony has more first party development studios than Microsoft, and each of them have a history for us to see. You can't honestly believe Sony has the problem with first party games and that Microsoft will be fine, because that is completely backwards. I mean, you do know that Dead Rising 3, Ryse and Titanfall are all third party developed right? And that PvZ is only a timed exclusive...

I hope that by E3 we know generally speaking what to expect from this game in terms of game modes. I personally don't want to know anything else about the story, about the mechanics, about skill trees - I've already pre-ordered the game and don't want things spoiled - but I'd really like to know how varied will the multiplayer be. Will it be somewhat like Halo 3 in terms of the different modes and options? Will it have a diverse quest system, or will it be limited?

Good read. I admit, from the beginning I didn't know what to expect from this game. I mean, I love Halo to death (Halo 2, while not my favorite game, was my favorite gaming experience) and Destiny is Bungie trying to evolve the Halo formula. Bungie tossed around lots of sexy terms and ideas, and I love the style of the world and its enemies.

But, it's hard to just buy into ideas - especially lofty ones. Destiny is a FPS with MMO elements, raid bosses, multiplayer comp...
