there is a difference between cloud computing and streaming a game from the cloud. And MS has larger infrastructure for cloud computing with azure which is in the top 3 for best cloud computing firms. They have been doing this stuff for years.

@newmonday

23 out of your last 25 comments in the past few days have been about titanfall and you say you are not interested in it. Let me give you the definition of interest.

INTEREST: showing curiosity or concern about something or someone; having a feeling of interest.

You definitely are curious about it as you are "reading" the articles and you are voicing your concerns for the game. I would consider that as taking an interest. ...

The outdoors shots are Okay, but those last two properly show off UE4.

It would be cool to have a battle with something like the goliath, then also be able to switch things up and be in the jungle trying to survive against a predator like creature stalking your every move waiting for someone to break away from the pack.

I can't wait to see Halo, Zelda and Uncharted 3. Each my favorite series for each console.

good eye, I didn't notice that fraps counter when I first watched the video.

I believe it looks so nice because they are using motion blur and he is probably running it at least 60 FPS and depending on his PC's specs and his monitor and how optimized the game is. He might be running it at 120 FPS.

People don't seem to understand the benefit of having Windows 8 on a multi core system because it really improves hpyperthreading with intel CPU's and multicore CPU's namely amd's 6 and 8 core CPU's.

I think it can work, you just need to split the games world into what needs to be computed locally and what should be computed via the cloud.

Things that should be done locally should be everything within the vicinity of the player that needs to be constantly updated. So think visual things like lighting as well things that affect gameplay like physics or some of the enemy AI.

What I think the cloud has the potential to do really well is AI. Latency can seem ...

What? almost everything I've heard was positive about drivatars (XB1 cloud) and Forza 5 is the in my opinion the best looking game out now sure it is a racing game so that's expected. However the physics are also nothing to scoff at and that's from the hardware.

Also CDProject is not a developer who's credibility should be questioned. They now what they are doing more so than it seems a lot of other devs. Witcher 2 is one of the...

Which in PR terms means, "we believe people would prefer smart glass over streaming a game at this time" They will have streaming they have it working well with server 2012 (I've used it to stream games to my laptop with little to no noticeable lag. However that was over the 100mb/s internet speeds that my university has. So I'm sure they are going to have it soon. Also DX11.1 and 11.2 have added API features for game streaming.

It will not downgrade picture quality however it will go from dolby 5.1 to stereo. The reason behind the downgrade in audio is because there were issues with certain cable boxes and the pass through so they current do not have surround sound enabled. There is however a beta option in the setting to enable it however results vary.

Hello World is a good example for people who haven't tried programming before, I'm not saying that a lot of N4G commenters are clueless but I'm just going to have to say that the discussions are not not much better than what you would read on youtube. So pardon me for starting off with low expectations.

Software optimization is the first thing they teach you if you take a class involving computer concepts (my class was Assembly code and computer concepts). It isn&...

People still don't see how much game optimization affects a game's performance.

Here is a quick lesson on software optimization as well as some computer architecture. You will need to know this if you want to work as a programmer or in a similar field.

BACKGROUND ON A CPU'S LOW LEVEL COMPUTATIONS:

consoles now have 64 bit CPU's that means that the cpu can read a 64 bits/8 bytes at once. A bit is essentially a 1 or a 0 and thos...

IF you look at some DX11.1 features you might see where he may be hinting at. Essentially DX11.1 has the ability to have an output of polyogons at something like 720p however the textures can still be native 1080p.

An example would be a triangle where rendered at 720p where the edges might be jaggy however the texture within the triangle would be 1080p and look nice a sharp. What they could use the upscaler for is essentially to smooth those edges and overall the final result...

There really is no loss in detail when up scaling from 1080p to 4k. Essentially 1080p = 1920x1080, 4k= 3840x2160. 3840/1920 = 2 and 2160/1080 = 2, 2x2 = 4 hence the term 4k. This was done for the sole purpose of scaling, if you run a 1080p stream on a 4k set you will end up with each pixel of data from the stream being displayed on 4 pixels on the 4k, without any scalars it would look just the same side by side with a 1080p display, so scalars should essentially only make it look better weath...

No we fund it by paying for xbl, where else do you think that money goes to when microsoft is one of the top ten funders of R&D in the public market. And besides, microsoft also has azure (their cloud computing software that even rivals amazon and google and I'm not talking consumer level stuff like skydrive and google docs I'm talking raw computing power) which is currently one of their most important technologies this decade maybe even more important than xbox itself.

@Jeffgoldwin

If the XB1 os is based of W8 then it should have some really good SSD support. Also the XB1 has 8GB of flash memory for the OS i believe which is pretty much an SSD. So there is a good chance the PS4 should have improved SSD performance as well.

No, you know where you fail? You obviously have no clue as to how much you underestimate the power of azure.

You see how much Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo spend on their consoles? Well part of what Sony spends on Playstation is put towards Gaikia servers. Well Microsoft is spending just as much if not more on the xbox to compete with the Playstation. But not only that but in terms of their Azure division, their fighting a whole other war again...
