out of 39 critic reviews on metacritic, only five of them are above a 70, and only two are 80 or higher. i wouldn't call that a lot of high reviews.

the UK bundle with this game, Mario U and Luigi U is looking really good. i hope it comes to the US, because i might pick it up if it does.

the fact that we are mostly symmetrical doesn't automatically make the Dualshock's stick placement correct. just stand up and let your hands dangle at your sides. the natural state of our thumbs is to run almost parallel to our fingers. meaning the left stick on the Xbox controller is actually a lot more natural in regards to how our thumbs rest than the Dualshock's sticks are. unless you walk around with your thumbs pointing out from your hands, which i doubt.

this was an interesting piece.

i find this to be especially problematic in MMOs. it seems like they all feel they have to fit the proper definition of what an MMO is, and thus hit all the check boxes for features they think the game has to have. so instead of innovating and taking the genre to uncharted territory, they end up with a game that feels manufactured and devoid of any life or innovation. and as you said in the article, it's hard to grow the medium if you just s...

i actually enjoyed SMB2 a lot more than Mario Sunshine. yeah, i know, i'm one of those rare weird guys who doesn't much care for Mario Sunshine.

i always find these types of questions ridiculous and pointless. it's like asking if you could build a Lamborghini with the budget of a Chevy Malibu. i know that sounds like i'm being really negative about consoles, but it's true. if you want more power and performance, you have to pay a premium for it.

no, you probably couldn't build a PC that's more powerful than the PS4 if you only spend $400 on it. PC's cost more, because....wait for it...you get w...

these are the types of things i mean when i say we should be looking out for real next gen experiences. something like a VR headset or Oculus Rift could fundamentally change the way we play and interact with games. and i'm sure there are other ways out there yet to be discovered.

i've no problem with it being about more than just a piece of gaming hardware. my PC is more than just a high end gaming machine, which is awesome. the PS3 was far more than just a gaming console, which was great too.

the problem is where the main focus lies. the problem is that when the console was originally unveiled at their conference, it took forever for them to actually start talking about games. if their focus is TV, Kinect, sports, super casual/shallow games, etc,...

how does the twitch on PS4 compare to the one on PC? can you sign in to your existing account, search for streams, view your subscribed streams, and so forth? basically, do you have the full functionality that the PC version does?

i ask this because i've tried to use twitch on my android phone and Xbox 360, and it's been a pile of crap on both. it had about 5% of the functionality that the full version does.

@MorePowerofGreen

thanks for the video, that was pretty interesting. it actually looks like a solid game, i just hope the way they're releasing it (f2p, but you can buy more stuff if you want) doesn't hurt it.

it's really cool to see that they're including hit boxes and frame data in the practice modes. the training mode junkies will eat that up.

people like Flash Metroid, Nuckledu, CJ Truth, and Alex Jebailey live in Florida, so i wouldn't be surprised to see them show up and win the prize if any of them had a mind to.

if i was ranking them from best to worst as characters, i'd say Mario > Megaman > Sonic. Mario and Megaman could be debated since Megaman has a neat back story and he has so many unique powers and weapons. if i was ranking them based on their games, it's still Mario > Megaman > Sonic.

i've always thought Sonic was lame (they tried way too hard to make him seem "hip" as a character), and he has way too many average or bad games. plus he has no...

that's disappointing to hear. i understand that in a situation like the one you mentioned, you could boil it down to a simple yes or no thing. but in conversations, i want the dialog to feel more fluid and natural, and less rigid and structured. and i definitely want them to do away with the good/neutral/bad thing.

i know a lot of people don't mind it, but i honestly think it's one of those things where once game designers get past it as a whole and develop someth...

i've played and beaten the Mass Effect trilogy, Jade Empire, and Knights of the Old Republic, and i enjoyed all of them. with that said, if they want to push narrative-driven, and especially choice-based games to the next level, they need to get beyond the whole 'here's a good choice, here's a bad choice, here's a neutral choice' thing. it's very static and contrived, and it doesn't feel as fluid as something like The Walking Dead or The Witcher. yes, sometimes...

it's disappointing that the experience doesn't match this concept, because this is one of those true next gen experiences that i want consoles to deliver. meaning it's not just a bump up in graphics, but a new way to experience and interact with a video game.

the problem is its execution--it looks unresponsive, and the people playing it look kinda silly in their movements.

i'd say Dead Rising gets an 8-8.5
Killer Instinct is about a 7.5
Forza is a 9 or higher
Ryse is 7.5-8

i really don't like this idea of brand loyalty or having faith in a company.

definition of loyal from a quick google search:

"giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution."

quick definition of faithful from google search:

"loyal, constant, and steadfast."

now, gamers are ultimately consumers. these companies make products, and we can choose to bu...

this is only one developer, so i'm not going to paint the whole industry as having this mindset, but i honestly think that's a really depressing mindset to have if you're a game designer.

is 1080p awesome? yes.
does 1080p make games look better? yes.
does 1080p make things look sharp, crisp, defined, etc? yes.

does 1080p change the way games are fundamentally designed? NO. an emphatic no.

i want developers (on any ...

i'm sorry, but this "have their vision come true" crap is nonsense. are the PS4 and XB1 different in power? sure. are they vastly different enough to where one console can help a developer reach their vision and the other one can't?

what, is the developer's vision to have slightly better shadows in one version? or slightly better better AA, or maybe going from 900p to 1080p? ok, we all love a bump up in graphics, but acting like a developer can't ach...

i really, really, really hope it's not Uncharted 4. and this is coming from somebody who loved Uncharted 1 and 2 (haven't played the third yet).

gaming is so saturated with sequels nowadays, on ALL platforms, that we need to start holding developers' and publishers' feet to the fire and demanding they give us some new and quality IPs. and i'm talking all devs and publishers, not just Naughty Dog (they actually did a good thing by showing that a new IP can ...
