They are talking about player hours not total people online. This was also before Halo 2 came out. I have no idea what people played online on the Xbox before Halo 2.
I may not have been combining the player base. I thought that number told you about everyone online. I would see around 50k to 60k during peak time and during peak Socom 2 days. When Halo 2 came out, they would see 100k to 150k people on.
I just don't get why they wouldn't include...
Can you name a game that had a chance to be GOTY from the countless of sites that give them away that only had a great story and nothing else? I can names countless of games that had a bad/no story but great game play.
Do people forget how good Killzone 2 was, story wise? They showed the similarities of what is going on in today's world when the game came out in 2009 with the war. I just think it was a FPS at it's heart and that is what people saw first.
Story is NOT king! At least not in this industry. If Horizon Zero Dawn had bad combat but a great story (which it does), this game would barely get looked at since actually playing it wasn't fun. If this game had an average story like most video games, but amazing combat (which it does), it would still be played by a lot people still. That is the weird part when it comes to this industry. A game like Heavy Rain, heavenly (get it) relies on a great story. I think a lot of people were surpr...
That Skyscraper movie with Dwayne Johnson looks to be a GREAT story! I wonder what it will be about!?
When people say the story is awful in Horizon Zero Dawn, I wonder what games they are playing. Don't get me wrong, not everyone will like a certain game but when people hate on something particular when the industry is seriously lacking in that category, you have to question that person. Two of the best games that came out recently, Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW, and in the beginning I had a hard time moving forward since there was no push because the lack of story. I was around 20 minutes...
People like you, make it sound that video games have a high change to have great stories. There are tons of great videos games but most of them don't have a story at all or the story is just there. There are VERY FEW video games in general that have a great story. There are some cringe moments when you are talking to an NPC, especially one who isn't that important but you are nitpicking though.
You said it doesn't deliver, but yet, the game does in so many diff...
I was getting bored half way into the game (the story kept on pushing me to wanting to know everything). I also, never touched my weapons and had the same ones throughout my adventure. I started playing around with new weapons and bought some new ones. I farmed for better gear, that helped me out so much in that department. I was only skin deep with the combat.
Gaming is a very simple concept but for some reason, this generation and last generation, developers are trying to sell us on different things. All we want are games, MP or SP, to have a lot of content in it with great game play features and mechanics. We don't even NEED a great story, but a great story is a cherry on top that will add to everything else the game offers.
If Horizon Zero Dawn had an average video game story, the game would still sell great solely because...
@UCforce
Killzone 2 SP was another great SP story as well. I still think it is one of their best games they ever made! GG was never a top notch story teller, but it was never their flaw either.
Exactly, it is cool how this game is grounded! One thing I look for in a game is combat and the videos I seen with combat, it just looks flat. I am also not a fan of this being in first person. That is my preference though.
I just saw a website saying you can now wager for your favorite pro team in your favorite games CS GO, Rocket League, and etc. I am like wow!
I don't want to be that guy, because, I want a Socom 2 remake or even H-Hour at this point, but Socom never had 100k on at a time. The most I ever seen was around 63k mark.
@chiefJohn117
That is great but I am talking about myself, I know all of their titles since I have had their systems (besides the Xbox one). I know they had some good JRPGs on the 360 but I am not big on them in general.
@Dark_Knightmare2
Yeah, in all honesty, I liked 4 a lot to story wise but I actually make up story lines for my character. he only used a bow and I (in my head) gave him a reason why he did that. People always use well Vas was the best Villain, and I am like he wasn't even the main one and didn't last through the whole campaign and the main one was nothing special.
I have gotten every Xbox besides the Xbox one because 3 times shame on me. I just want to play unique games, and back in the day, MS had some cool games, Halo, Fable, Gears (lol). Next generation, Gears Halo, Forza, Fable. Next generation, new developer working on Gears, new developer working on Halo, a failed Fable, and Forza that is still going strong. I told myself Pat, just stop buying the Xbox and see if they come out with new IPs. Here I am looking at what Xbox is bringing to the table....
I feel like FC 4 was better in every aspect besides story. I personally, don't buy FC games for the story so when people want a great open world and don't care for story I will say FC 4 over 3 for that reason.
I always feel third person is more immersive, weird but true for me. If you are telling a story, I like to see the character who is actually part of the story. There are a few first person games that the character we controlled grabbed me. I can't imagine Uncharted being in First person. That view would totally ruin the whole immersion for me. Of course, it is a small thing but when a developer WANTS to tell a story, I like to actually know what the main character looks like. I like to se...
