@Dragonknight I do count FF games as niche because there is little to no appeal to other gamers outside it's rabid fanbase who buy every iteration/game. I also sincerely doubt your claim that FF 13 was an attempt to lure the "Bro" gamer because as most gamers/companies already know; a Bro isn't interested in epic quests, convoluted plotlines, or people with ridiculous hair. All there is to a Bro gamer is COD, Madden, Gears of War and whatever is the flavour of the month. I d...
Here's the thing. Square-Enix has been attempting to branch out to the western world in order to gain much-needed revenue. By limiting themselves to eccentric JRPGs; it is limiting it's appeal to a niche audience. FF will probably never reach the heights of the PS1/PS2 era again because they don't have the same pull of the games of old. You can put it down to all of Wada's fault, but I personally think the script writers for some particular FF titles that are to blame. With th...
Would a HD remake of GTA:Vice City and San Andreas really be a good idea? The games themselves haven't aged well and I'm not too sure how a HD remake will improve it much.
I would be open to a Project Zero/Fatal Frame trilogy HD remake though I doubt there is a big enough market for a release.
It's my G.O.T.Y. For a completely independent group to go and make something that clearly has a large amount of heart put into it to release it for free is quite extraordinary.
If you guys want a good visual novel dating thing; search for something called Katawa Shoujo or something like that. It's free but the subject matter might put off a couple of people.
I expect console wars.
That is all.
Okay. I'll might be in the minority but I think Square Enix are doing pretty okay right now. It's true that the Final Fantasy series has been on a downhill slope for a long time and while there has been arguments, mistakes and utter botches that have taken place; their publishing arm is doing just dandy. They publish the COD series over in Japan, publish Ubisoft games, they are publishing upcoming releases like Tomb Raider, Hitman:Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, and Thief 4 that's been...
Dammit! I've heard of all these but I've yet to do any of them. Well, I made a map for Timesplitters: Future Perfect, so does that count as in this generation?
Also, I don't see the appeal of Minecraft whatsoever.
Good blog. While I have written up an article on Kojima and Metal Gear; I've decided to hold it back for a week or two since you've released yours ahead of mine and after reading your words. Your enthusiasm is infectious while I have a slightly dimmer view on the whole thing. Anyways, good blog!
If I could choose an ending to get fixed; it'd be a PS2 game called Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. In the ending of that particular game; it fades to black with the line "To Be Continued". Very unlikely to get a sequel when the company who made it (Midway) has gone out of business.
Just to clarify your point. While I do agree that leaving an ending open to interpretation is a very interesting way to end a saga; ME 3 threw it's own internal rules out in the 15 minutes. It's written inside the premise of a machine which can be activated by shooting a tube. In the Destroy ending; how does Shepard know that by shooting the tube that it activates the machine? Why is he walking toward it? Doesn't shooting a machine usually break it? I could go on but I hope you ca...
If an ending is utterly lacking in narrative coherence and doesn't make sense; don't be surprised if a community who've supported the franchise not just by buying the games but by buying all sorts of merchandise like comic books, novels, clothing etc will react to an abysmal ending. The extended cut isn't the greatest, but at least Bioware tried to fix their endings by giving some added coherence to the damn thing. Besides, it's not as if using a retcon has never been used...
@Parallax_Films The Catalyst gave Shepard a choice of three possible routes to break the cycle. By choosing not to make a choice, Starchild is angered by the egotistical rant about dying for the freedom of all species and ending it YOUR way. As for it sounding like Harbinger; it's clearly not. It sounds far more like Mac Walters and Casey Hudson shouting "SO BE IT" together as a response to the IT fanfiction that gained far more credence than it really should've mustered. A...
I bought the game straight away because I was intrigued by the synopsis.
Protip: Good ideas are worth nothing without proper execution.
Just to add; those endings weren't written by the head writer of ME1 and ME2 Drew Karpshyne. His "Dark Energy" script seemed really interesting, but he was taken off the team to try and boost the Old Republic MMO that is tanking like hell.
The synthesis ending was the best. You didn't kill/destroy all synthetic life. Every civilization could rebuild and the knowledge gathered from previous cycles would be added to the current one.
@FAGOL What's this? The thing that controlled all the reapers sounds like a reaper? Also, your character and every civilization that you were supposed to be fighting for has died. The indoctrination theory has been disproved. It's over.
Got it and it plays pretty well. Guess I have a reason to use shotguns now.
DA 2 was a bit of a misstep compared to Origins, but there were some good things about it. The plot was more grounded and had applicability; not to mention it was a great cave simulator.
Stop wasting my time.
You know what I want.
You know what I need.
Or maybe you don't.
Do I have to come right flat out and tell you everything?
Gimmie some money!

I guess there are quite a number of people who have devices that have Smartglass, but honestly what is the point unless it's to track your every move/gaming/viewing habits?
It's some weird Illuminati crap. If you spell out the word "Smartprice" and rearrange the letters, you can get words like "Scar Permit" and "Scat Primer".
SmartGlass is a trap!
