Art is subjective by nature. It's a way of celebrating our human nature and explore our humanity. So in a way, all forms of entertainment is art. The real question is: Is it good art?

Gaming is an expensive hobby. It's been that way since the 1980's. Remember Neo Geo, what were they thinking?

If the market wants cheaper prices, don't expect blockbuster titles. GTA 4 alone cost $100 million dollars to make which is more than LOTR: The Return of the King movie.

Microsoft lost famed game designer Peter Molyneux. Is that a "MEGATON?"

People come and go. Let just hope Phil Harrison don't get caught up in the Kinect phenomenon.

If they want to make iPad a console, they should stop releasing new iPads every year. Console's rely on standard hardware that only change when a new generation is ready.

Standard hardware helps developers make games that utilizes what's available to it's upmost potential. If the hardware changes, they have to take into consideration that older iPads need to work with your game. This is fine too because PC games are designed that way for many years.

Totally agree

This is a very touchy subject for many gamers. This debate will likely continue for generations to come. On the bright side, Apple has succeeded very well in presenting the gaming world to a demographic that have never even though about playing a video game to pass time. That, in itself, is innovation.

However, the smartphone gaming market is oversaturated with poor quality titles. We saw this happen in 1985 where a flood of bad games had shrunk...

Mass effect 2 looks more realistic to the female anatomy, but I don't see a problem with the 3rd progression. Just as long as they go too far and start looking like Soul Calibur characters and start animating the "bounce."

Ummm...Where's Mario, Zelda, or Donkey Kong? Am I missing something?

Just to make things clear. Epic and Apple are companies selling a product to a large user base that don't even know or care about iPad specs.

I remember GTA San Andreas came out 1 year before Xbox 360. I'm pretty sure Rockstar is fine with this release. You just want to have the next GTA to look amaze ballz. I would love that too but these games take years to make.

Too much money is being made in simple touch based games. I cannot see Apple selling a device that comes with a standard physical controller with buttons and analog sticks. I also don't see them making exclusive games like Halo or Uncharted which cost 300 times more for the consumer and is meant to be played hundreds times longer.

You noticed that they have to SAY they can overtake consoles because they NEVER have to back their statement with real facts.

Apple can end console gaming if they have:

1. rights to Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft exclusives. (fat chance)

2. games that are fun while your sitting on the couch looking at a large TV screen. (maybe if touch-based games play well using a device other than your fingers)

3. a large community of hardcore gamers playing hardcore games that are meant to be played for hours. (I can't imagine an Apple product doing this but they can try)

No game in today's world is close to rendering photo-realism but with great art direction, you can achieve an effect that's better than realism.

Just look at Quantic Dream's Kara demo; most of the detail was on Kara's face and maybe her hands. The rest we didn't care about so most of the processing power went to animating her face.

Realism also can have that "Uncanny valley" look where it gets a little creepy.

@F7U12

Here is the biggest flaw of your argument and what I thought was obvious when you read my comment.

207 compatible games out of 100,000+ games that are available work on this device.

iPad also has one major gaming flaw>>> No physical controls.

I'm glad Sony and Nintendo went ahead and made portable gaming systems. The world will suck if every portable game is only controlled by touching a screen or physically move the machine.

@LightofDarkness

Your right but I doubt Bethesda would put effort into making a game that only makes money off people who bought and iPad with X device that lets you connect an external controller which renders the iPad main selling point useless because it's no longer portable.

Would be nice to have Skyrim on the iPad but that will never work.

Who cares? Graphics are like 10% of what makes a good game. Let's talk about how differently we will be playing games on nextgen consoles, not how real graphics look.

Damn EDGE is rough with their reviews. I only agree with their 10/10 games choices. The rest are very questionable.

Look at Mario Galaxy. It has a very unique playing experience. So unique that if it was ported over to a non-Nintendo hardware, it will not be as fun.

Now look at ported games like Street Fighter or Tony Hawk for the iPhone. The controls are more fun on the console than the touch screen.

The point is that Sony will run the risk of diluting the playing experience of original IPs to a point that it won't be fun anymore. Sorry I wasn't clear before.
