Normally you see the next gen released 5 years into the lifetime of the "old" system. PS1 released around 1995, PS2 released in 2000 and the PS3 was supposed to release in 2005, but was delayed a year due to the delay in BluRay diode production that was not planned in the original timeli...

the playstation games devision is actually making quite a nice amount of money, the PS3 HARDWARE is loosing a little money, but a Sony rep already stated in an interview in AUGUST that the royalties from PS3 gamesales already pushed the whole thing into the profit zone. Now they are only working on getting the hardware department to break even on its own. Though you can't take them apart, without the hardware there would be no software sales ...

Consoles are usually sold on commission by huge chains, cause the manufacturer may cut the price at any time, if stores bought the stuff they would end up loosing money selling at the new price they did not decide upon themself.

there is more to games than "looks" ... RedFaction always had the top notch destructible environment engine around. Sure it doesn't look as plasticly shiny as Gears2, but as a tradeof it will have AI and Physics unsurpassed.

no, the new models keep part of the firmware stored on the hdd, a PS3 without a HDD is not a possibility as of now.
also, where would you put the savegames with your idea? No cardreader, no hdd = nothing to put the save on ...
I would be surprised if the wifi chip would cost more than $5 at wholesale. And the problem with 40GB 2.5" sata drives is .. nobody is producing them anymore hence a 40GB unit would cost only cents less than the bigger 80GB unit that is currently the standard unit for mass production laptops. So you wouldn't gain more than $10 by taking out wifi AND scaling down the HDD.
That is the problem with fud .. only cause Microsoft tells people that a wifi usb stick is worth $100 and...
I think the point is not the screenshots, but the scans of the article itself, so people who lack the most recent Edge issue can read it.
