Agreed. I've played the game for over 100 hours. I've experienced near everything of note the game really has to offer. My conclusion: it's a decent bit of Breath of the Wild standalone DLC, but as Breath of the Wild did nothing to move the open world genre forward, neither will Tears of the Kingdom.

Limited enemy types, little reason to engage with most anything in the world that isn't expressly linked to a quest of some kind, multiple regions that are very...

Weapons last a lot longer in TotK if you fuse. I don't love that crap still breaks as easily as it does, but at the least my inventory has been less of a revolving door of gear than in BotW.

Anyone could have guessed review scores for this game were going to be inflated. Breath of the Wild had a lot of issues. It wasn't a bad game, but it definitely wasn't a 9 - 10/10 either. Odds were rather low Tears of the Kingdom was going to magically fix everything and be the first perfect open world game ever. Nintendo first party games have notoriously worthless reviews though since too many folks are a mix of too much nostalgia for Nintendo and simultaneously too scared of gettin...

This timing isn't that weird. eSports are notorious money sinks, and organizations have been failing one after another the past few months as funds dry up and popularity wavers. Critical who is one of the runners of his own eSports organization has been extremely candid about the fact that there's really no money to be made, and a lot of suits that had their companies throw money at the concept are just starting to give up and move on.

It was announced during pandemic era game development. Gotta give them time. I would say a couple years for a game that was clearly pre-alpha at announcement is still fine for having nothing new to show. I also doubt SE wants to steal any hype from FF16 at this point, so even if they do have something to show, I wouldn't expect to see it before Fall at the absolute earliest.

Majora's Mask, a major oddity in the series as the game is shaped around the story rather than the story being shaped around the game as Nintendo usually does. It wants you to be invested in saving the world and all the unique individuals in it. The game was made so fast too, this is really its saving grace. Certain aspects of the original game technically are a bit rough (poor Z targeting getting made into jank), and the boss fights just generally aren't good in either the original o...

To be fair, Hi Fi Rush didn't bring much in the way of momentum. It's not a bad game. Critical and casual reception were both good. But it flew largely under the radar otherwise. Notice how it basically launched, reviewed, got a week of minor buzz, and is now basically just the game people can point to and say that Xbox released a good exclusive this gen. It's already known the game didn't sell particularly well though.

Redfall being as bad as it is definite...

I like how people don't know how using data to prove an evidence based point works. It's fundamentally borderline impossible to prove a pirated copy of a game would have been a purchased copy otherwise. Assuming that's the case is a leap in logic with zero support to back it up.

If you've ever been in a piracy scene of any kind, you know two things tend to lead to piracy: either someone simply pirates because it's all free to them so why not try it, or t...

You do realize TotK is going to sell insanely well regardless of this leak, right? It blows my mind all these years later people still believe piracy harms sales when we have yet to see any proof of that. People pirating the game now likely always intended to pirate it, or have a preorder but just want to get ahead of spoilers in this particular case. If this game sells less than 10 million lifetime, I will procure a hat and proceed to eat it.

Physical copy, ships on launch day, so wouldn't be launch day delivery.

Games leak early all the time. This is nothing new. The full chain of distribution requires physical stock get a 1 - 2 week head start just arriving at warehouses, and when a large stock of a game arrives at a warehouse, who's going to notice one or two missing copies among thousands? Sure a store or two may notice their stock allocation is short a copy, but that would likely just be considered a clerical error.

Then when it comes to the internet, try as they might to t...

At least they didn't just announce with some words on a piece of paper, but yeah, when they can't cobble together even a basic trailer of any kind, you know development is likely still pre-alpha. It's like Dragon Quest 12 was announced with only a logo, so nobody with two brain cells to rub together is all that surprised we haven't seen anything about the game since then.

JRPG stopped meaning a game actually made by Japanese developers ages ago. It's pretty commonly accepted shorthand for any RPG with a more traditional turn based battle system. Chained Echoes is called a JRPG for example and that game is certainly not a Japanese developed title.

Pretending this isn't the case just so you can be contrary seems silly to me.

I don't get this. I've already put in a kind of stupid number of hours just exploring the first location top to bottom before breaking into the game proper. So far I've been given plenty of material to level characters, I've smashed every difficult enemy encounter, I've pulled a few characters, I've accrued a surprising number of the more premium pull currency, I've received plenty of ascension materials, and none of this with even a penny spent. Heck they only eve...

Indeed, the tech exists to at least mitigate this issue, even if we aren't at a point where it can be outright solved yet. This is a game that needed more time in the oven.

There are absolutely games out there that no longer have an in business rights holder. Companies have disappeared over the years, and many an IP has entered limbo where basically rights just need to expire before anything can be legally done with a given property going forward. It's one reason retro game preservation is such a sore spot, since without ROMs and piracy, many of these games would have been lost to time long ago. Heck, Nintendo has already introduced that issue in a modern fa...

Nintendo is a mixed bag. It's undeniable they are anti-consumer as all hell. If you think otherwise, you are maybe a little too blissfully ignorant when it comes to knowing where your money is going. That said, they are also first and foremost a Japanese company, and although their egregious volume of recent YouTube takedowns is definitely absurd, fair use doesn't really exist in Japan either so they can basically take down any content for any reason any time on the grounds of copyrig...

One of the only games I simply permanently removed from my Steam library. Balanced entirely for multiplayer making the single player experience feel like crap, with far too many builds not being nearly viable enough to win. Was a truly frustrating mess of a game that completely missed the mark.

Reminds me of when Kingdom Hearts 3 came out, and the original discs are worthless for offline play because they didn't include the end of the game to avoid spoilers from leaks. A valiant effort, but a dick move since that meant downloading a sizable chunk of game + the day one patch, the bane of anyone with less than stellar internet or a harsh data cap. You actually had to hard wait to buy a later printing of the game in that scenario, and you were forced to buy new to make sure you did...

I'm pretty sure gamepass isn't supposed to be an excuse for games to be ported badly. Maybe try having some standards.
