Exactly this. These companies know full well that devaluing their products by 'giving them away' on Gamepass leads in only one direction, a complete lack of sales and a lack of profits to sustain development of their next project.

Of course they also acknowledge that giving away Elden Ring, for example, would lead to gamers not buying any of their games in the future either as their will be an expectation that they will also be given away for nothing.

I played them all since picking up a Series X about 7 months ago. Personally, I don't think time has been kind to the earlier games and they feel very slow and repetitive to play. Whilst the newer games may be prettier, they stick with the original gameplay mechanics too much in my view so as a whole series of titles, I think they are pretty average games.

Not to say they weren't fun and I have a lot of nostalgia for 1 and 2, I just think there are far better acti...

I may be way off here, but I honestly think that is kinda underwhelming when you consider the kind of money many other mobile titles make.

If figure that it will be most popular at launch with people wanting to try it, then it doesn't strike me as mindblowingly impressive.

Still, it does reaffirm why mobile games and streaming service providers will continue to exploit mtx to the fullest.

As someone who put a thousand hours+ into Elite Frontier, I can categorically say that landing on planets manually never got old as far as emersion goes. Personally, I think this is quite a disappointing development.

You may still see some of their DNA in the supernatural powers, but that's where the similarity ends for me. This is an out and out shooter and that's it as far as I could tell, gone is the stealth and world building dialogue and NPC's etc.

I adore the Dishonoured franchise, liked deathloop a little less and as a single player game fan, feel quite lukewarm on Redfall.

The thing I love about Bethesda RPGs is how dense the worlds are to explore, I felt like there is something cool to discover around every corner.

Even if they somehow managed that experience across every planet I am not sure that is an experience most people want. Its a trap Ubisoft fell into with their last few games. At some point games get stale and repetitive no matter their quality and that's just in respect of a map of one small region of one planet.

I did pay to play Royal and personally, I am pretty pleased that I did. I want to support the developer in the hopes that they will invest in the next Persona game.

These kinds of comments demonstrate why most major publishers are avoiding releasing their major titles on Gamepass. They know that to do so completely devalues their games. Gamespass users are increasingly adverse to the idea of buying games and that ain't a good thing if you care about a healthy industr...

Erm, Sony didn't lose anything squire. Yakuza was never exclusive as a result of Sony dealings, it was simply as a result of the publisher appreciating they traditionally were selling to Japanese audiences where XBox is a non concern.

The Yakuza games still exist on Sony consoles and I have no doubt that Persona 3 and 4 will arrive to Sony consoles too.

I do enjoy the Bethesda RPGs but they really need to move to a new engine. Some of the graphics looked really nice, but the facial animation was really last gen looking and the AI was also pretty laughable at times too.

I can defo see why they put it back in the oven, it shows some real promise but I am not convinced it will be the generational leap some are hoping for.

I have to say, the faces and facial animations were decidedly last gen in opinion as was the animation in general.

The art design was great though, but that is usually the case with Bethesda to be fair.

I am hoping we see a physical release of Cuphead now the expansion is out. To this day I think Cuphead is one of the most staggeringly good looking games ever made.

I still have concerns over how they define 'gamer' whenever I see such reports. If we are to include the mobile sector then of course, its completely obvious that the percentage of gamers will reflect mobile phone ownership which will be approximately 50% of society.

However, in my opinion, I think there should be a distinction made between the mobile gaming sector and the gaming sector that is built around PC and consoles, these are very different beasts and I wou...

Which is why he is making the statement he has. People are placing way too much of a burden on this one show.

Setting realistic expectations is a really good move.

He is making these statements because he has previously been accused of over hyping his shows, sometime unfairly.

I think its a smart move to try and curb people's expectations. People are already going overboard with their predictions or desires and then, when they are inevitably disappointed, level criticism at Geoff.

I thought that was a really decent showing personally. Interested in pretty much every game that was shown and the pacing of the show was great too.

I would love to see some updates on first party stuff next, I am starting to lose faith that we'll ever see a Bloodborne remaster😪

That's fine in theory, but plenty of publishers have shown that a fraction of their games sales are occurring on Xbox now.

MS are not driving people to their ecosystem to buy games as you suggest, in fact, I would suggest they are changing their whole community's relationship with games to the point where, unless it's 'free' on Gamepass, they won't play it.

It's not just about recouping those huge initial outlays though. If they want to be rhe 'Netflix of videogames' they will need to invest billions in supporting all of their studios going forward too.

Given their track record, I cannot help but think that we will see some of the lesser studios shut down the moment their games don't translate to purchases/downloads.

As someone who loves Tango Gameworks, this does worry me. MS have historic...

Same here and I have actually gone as far as deciding to stop playing games I have tried on GP. For example, I tried The Acsent and Deaths Door for an hour or so and decided I really liked them and so stopped playing on Xbox.

I have physical copies of both of these games ordered for my PS5.
